This is a concept WIP of a mutant monster that is a half man-half giant lobster, drawn on a paper, then digitally colored and torn, stained to death to resemble a very old movie poster. Budget for advertising of this movie was very low so print was cheap, colors shifted and faded over time and cheap yellow-ish paper decayed rapidly…

a great resource of cinema posters.

Nice concept and colors - very appropriate! The pose of the monster seems a bit stiff and undynamic, but of course it’s only a concept so far. Good luck with the rest, and have fun!

#4

I really like the colors you used here and the way it looks like an old book or poster. Can’t wait to see more.

I’ve found some inspiration in a Lobster Man From Mars, a 1989 comedy film. The film is a spoof of B-movies of the 1950s. It is neither comedy nor horror in my opinion…and not very interesting to watch.
I am not trying to replicate any b-character or exact style of 1950s but rather to create my own in the same spirit.

#6

looks great. I like your proportioning of the lobster monster

Trying to get more dynamic pose.
…still wondering around. not sure whether to have more stiff or dynamic pose. B-graded creatures are rather clumsy hence not very dynamic.
.: thank you all for nice comments :.

So here it is… the list of all the features in the scene…

  1. Environment:
dusty, foggy, cave or some kind of laboratory with stone walls (Frankenstein type) some wires cables on walls and floor, maybe one table and some gadget…

2.characters

a blond girl, well not sure yet about the color of the hair but she needs to fit in the scene well, she has to look like she is in agony and ready to scream but still in a nice pose (for cover or poster)little naive but that’s the point.
Monster attacks - she looks beautiful +tempting.

Lobster monster reddish with lots of displacements, basically its a guy in a suit also very naive-but cool.
as for the composition, lady is a probably main focal point. Lobster should lead the eye out of the scene after she drags attention so she needs slightly to turn her face over to camera if she is the main focal point. Maybe it is better for her to stare at the lobster not sure yet…

Color scheme: analogues with dominant shades of red-brown and little desaturated shades of yellow-brown, it would be ok to have some contrasts in the scene…

Started modeling of a female character, shifting between Maya and Z-brush…
Base mesh was very simple, just to get some basic proportions, then exported high level to maya, retopologized and tweaked…(zb+maya)
next step: working on proportions and modeling the ear, hand and other body parts, attaching them together afterward.
Clothing will be addressed after posing.

That lobster image is GREAT, nice work!

#13

Wow - that last image kicks ass. The lobster face anatomy is great.

#14

creativebush, freejam, thanks a lot guys, for nice comments and stopping buy.

#15

some wip

#16

Next steps - uvs and detailing in zbrush, I will going to add clothing to see what portions of body are actually seen…that’s why I left chest area simple… (not going to show any nudity).

#17

wip…

#18

uv’s are done, base mesh is final. next step exporting to O Bi van J format…

#19

Trying to get subtle proportions from my reference, I keep the movie playing on top of all other programs while working and pause for most interesting parts. I really wish to get the same expression and emotions (like when actor is pretending to do some heavy math thinking)

environment concept modeling, just to get some inspiration with camera angles and mood, needs to be some kind of lab/cave thing.
