B-Movie Entry: Glenn E Brooks
OK, this is my idea; Beach Invasion. I want to capture that campy 50’s feel of the beach surfers, and the attack of the flying saucer men and the like. Sex appeal, diabolical alien attack, and clever one-liners, all together. I must add that I do not start with sketches, strictly speaking, no pencil or pens lines. I start by laying in a gradient, the blue, then just brushing in the scene and main characters with color over that. This is much easier for me.
I’m just building up the idea a little more here. I’m uncertain about the layout a little. I’m thinking of lowering the horizon, and the surf. Any comments on that would be appreciated.
I’ve added some title text here just to see what the overall layout is going to be. I still feel it needs more energy, maybe the poses, maybe the perspective.
I love the one liners! I don’t think the cheesy beach movies idea has been used yet…nice! Maybe you could add some cheesy alien tech to their surfboards, like the lights you see from under an alien spacecraft or something…this is looking funny though heh
Hey Glenn,
Cool concept, totally B-Movie !
like a lot your idea. The first sketches looks nice. Perhaps the alien invaders need a bit dynamic poses, they looks a bit rigid, only a comment
Nice work and looking forward for more updates. Cheers!!
Thanks Ferx, I agree and will try to work on the alien dynamic. Extra Terrestrials need a sense of drama too.
Thanks LastEmperor7. Alien tech is coming, but unfortunately, I’m moving slow on limited free time.
Hey Glenn I know EXACTLY how you feel…I’m struggling to find the time to put this thing into 6th gear right now…but I will!! Good luck!!
I’m about ready to increase the size to full resolution. I think I have all the elements. Does anything look off? I’m looking for any helpful advice before I get too far. Thanks.
the idea of the glue laser is most impressive!
i guess the alien are all of male~ haha!
Nice job so far. The text is really cheesy in a good way! However, your font choices don’t feel authentic: It looks as though you just took whatever fonts you happened to have lying around on your computer. Finding some typefaces that match the ones used in the old movie posters would relly help take this to the next level. Good luck!
Thanks guys. Walrus, I really appreciate the advice on the lettering. I had to resort to web tutorials, not having done much of that before.
