Latest Update: Work In Progress: painting details

Well I have no idea if I am going to make it to the finish line but here it goes. I struggled between this and a Frazetta style image. For the time being I am going to go with the invasion idea. Not overly inventive but hopfully I can manage a well painted image when/if its finished.

hey Dennis,

Really cool design for the outerspace ships  Good luck and waiting for more updates. Cheers!!

Working on the ‘hero’ at the moment. Trying to balance vintage future with something interesting…

A new kind of hero?..
Just something cool a friend of mine stumbled upon… I just added the image.

good stuff

#7

Cool robot!

#8

great render robot good idea good luck

#9

Thanks everyone… I started putting some of the characters into the scene. I am working on the hero pose and camera angle. I have fought to keep the robot from getting to distorted and keeping the design elements in frame. Thanks for looking. Good luck to everyone!

Nice scene! Great robot design, the open mechanical parts of the arms and legs are my favourites. Some detail renders would be very interesting, if you can spare the time.
Personally I prefer the first jumping pose, though. The new one looks like your hero is in for a rough landing on his knees and stomach. But maybe that’s just me not being a wrestling fan. Anyway, both poses look very dynamic.

#11

Hah, nice. You should call it THE IRON JORDAN. It does look like a dunk but I agree it is less dynamic of a pose than your original. I would try changing atleast one leg and see if it works for you.

#12

Hey thanks for the input! I was going through my Phil Hale book of poses… Let me see what I can do to work it out. Thanks again!

Nice work!

Are you doing this as a night scene. If so - I hope you dont lose all that wonderful detail in you models when lighting. The robot looks good- I agree with Archaeotect- something up with the pose in the last image. I think it is very dynamic, but maybe too close to the ground- makes you think he is prepared to punch a hole in the pavement. Maybe a slightly different camera angle?

#14

thanks grumposaur, man I cant begin to tell you how many camera angles I have done ahahah… I feel the same way. I will post some alternates and lets see what happens - feedback has been great.
It will be a night shot but with hopefully good moon ambient lighting and such to help keep the detail alive. Also the Invader in the foreground is going to be exploding somehow so that will also add some light.
Thanks again - much appreciated.

just ‘fiddlin’ with the break up of one of the invader ships. Also trying to look at the main characters in a different way…

#16

good work! i think the objects composition is perfect! look forward to the lighting effect!

#17

Thanks for the replies! I have been working on poses and have been playing around with poster graphic ideas. I may just stick with the image alone wiithout any graphics… note sure.

#18

Interesting update! Seems you have changed pose and situation to after the alien machine has been hit? Can`t wait to get a full view of the action. The shattered ship looks good, all the flying pieces add a nice level of detail.
The question of going for a poster look or not is difficult. Titles, taglines and the inclusion of more images sure are tempting. Especially the text bits are fun. But they could also clutter and ruin a great image.
Looking forward to your next update!

cheers, archaeotect

Thanks archaetect, great point! The text around the edges can be fun BUT at the same time you wouldn’t want to disrupt the image. In the early days of Hollywood the titles of the movies in opening credits were always splashed directly over the faces of the actors playing the main roles. I always thought that was cool but in terms of an artistic still, this would probably not work at all.
Yes, I had planned on showing the saucer exploding so I tried to get the pose of Irongore to be long after he took a big swing at the craft… hopefully that will come across in the final.
Thanks again for the input!

Finally settled on a pose… the pose is loosely based on Phil Hales painting titled ‘surrender to sin leads, through degradation,to isolated self indulgence’ 1999. VERY loosely I might add…
Thanks for looking.
