Great work, i like the posing of the last update, where the bug monster looks as if he’s politely inviting the woman to be abducted by aliens, rather then just running off with her
B-Movie Entry: Daniel Askins
OK there will be two girls for our bug eyed ladies man to be with. Here is the other I have a series of morph targets for her too. This will make it so I can fine tune the expression of the character I can combine and make more extreme or subtle. Still have to rig with bones and then onto the two guys and a few more props for the background and then layers.
Exactly that is the point he is the ladies man/bug from Neptune set to play the field here on Earth. Sort of the start of the plot of the worst teen movie ever.
Hey Daniel,
Totally cool concept, a seducer women alien bug is a totaly unique idea!! And really great character design on the lothario bug, has a really lover feeling, a womanizer for sure
The mustache is a fantastic touch.
Nice work and looking forward for more updates. Cheers!!
I wanted to include a properly shaded pic with the models. More of an effort than one would think. Wings does not do that so I imported into Messiah and did a quick render with simple materials with HDRI and GI on to get close to the same effect. I like wings a lot just wish it had a better renderer with it for modeling.
I will be taking things in a bit of a different direction All the characters will be in the render but the “Dinor” will not be there the backdrop changes and I will not be including the boys in the image. Mostly because it takes too much away from Zog who is the centerpiece.
Ferx thanks i look forward to your entry too. I looked up the mole salamander quite an interesting animal there. I plan on having a bit of fun with this good luck.
Working on the layers wanted to show a few of them off. Lots of photoshop later it will be pure Velveeta.
A preview of the final image. I need to get back to my life again. Did a lot of work on this and my family needs me so I need to wrap it up. I could get nitpicky and go over and over it will look at it again a few times over the weekend to see if I can tweak a few things. Lots of layers in photoshop.
The characters are rendered and rigged in Messiah 2.5. The background is rendered in Bryce 5.0 postwork in Photoshop 5.0LE all modeling done in Wings 3D.
I am doing this one on a budget so I guess it has that look a bunch of cheap out of date programs but hey it is fun.
Software: Bryce,Photoshop,Wings3D
He is a alien from Neptune that is a great lover of women and finds earthgirls particularly pleasant. He has powerful pheremone that will overwhelm the girls he meets with desire for him despite his appearance. He has style and is a cool guy.
an added note the foreground is rendered in Messiah 2.5.
OK this is what I got for a final image. I found I could not post upload a Tiff so did a high res JPG which was all it would let me upload. Anyways I have something up there hope it works out.
Anyways I need to ask why there is a Messiah forum here but you can’t select it as one of the software packages you use to make an image???
OK enough wining. I did about 20 layers in Photoshop and tweaked them trying to capture the lurid colors of a B Movie poster. Mountains in background are rendered in Bryce as the planet and spaceship.
Bonjour Daniel,
I am not familiar with the software youve used and their limitations but I have the impression that you did an impressive job with what you had. I really like your ideas but if I had to nitpick a little, I do find the lighting a bit harsh and uneven. The light might look this way in the void of space but since your characters dont wear spacesuits, the light would be more diffused because of the atmosphere. Also, your different elements dont feel lighted from the same source which gives a collage sensation that I dont think you intended. Nevertheless, I really dig your concept and your Zeb character.
Thanks for the comments. The background is rendered in a different program so there are fewer tricks so it is just point lights no HDRI or GI. I was going for a sort of collage look akin to the original star wars posters. I finished early and could have done more but I had to get away from it. I like my concept there are some things I would have liked to do better but lack of talent, time, hardware and software prevented a lot of that too.
In the end I am just a hobbyist that does this as a hobby have to work full time in an unrelated field and a dad so I do what i can.
Don’t sell yourself short, I don’t see any lack of talent here and trust me GI is overated.
Great finish. Well done. I especially like the elegant design of the space craft. It’s a subtle addition to an image which overall fits the theme of this challenge perfectly. Good luck
