Latest Update: Final Image: B-Movie Makers From Another World

Not only humans make B-movies… Here we see a team of Martians working on a Godzilla style horror flick where an un-convincing rubbery human beasty attacks a cardboard alien metropolis. They only have a budget of 23.7 blargon dollars so everything is going wrong and the director is not a happy chappy. The beasty is tangled in his own wires and is dangling helplessly in the background.
I?m happy with this concept, just need to start refining…

I like the character design want to see how this one turns out.

#4

nice twist!

#5

quick render of the director character

#6

that’s looking good, I like your idea for the challenge…
the character make me think a bit in monsters, inc, which I think is good, I specially like the eye… but I think that his front tentacle (the one at the bottom of the image) could be moved higher, it looks a bit too big or out of perspective to me…

#7

That’s a unique concept! Good luck with it

#8

Please tell me the Beasty’s name is Bruce.

#9

I love the idea… This would have made a good entry into the Strange Behavior challenge as well.

Concept for the alien wearing the rubbery human suit

#11

Brilliant! I adore the director and the cigar is the perfect touch there. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this.

#12

getting the composition sorted now - the director character needs to face the camera more i think… and look even angrier!!!

#13

Starting to roughly add colour

#14

Really sweet concept. I like the style aiming at. The director is a kickass character!

After painting these characters for several weeks now, I’ve started to think about their back stories a bit more. So I’ve given them names and written briefly about each one:

The director is called Orsellian Squellch, an alien equivalent of Ed Wood. He writes, he directs, he acts and… he cross-dresses! During this production though, he mainly just gets angry because everything is going wrong… It’s tough being a B-movie director from another world!

The tiny actor in the rubbery human costume is Antandec Robrome. He has appeared in all 9087 of Orsellian’s movies, mainly as the guy in the monster costume due to his small stature. This is his most challenging role so far – trying to squeeze his 6 tentacles into a costume with 4 limbs.

The Cameraman is Thargwin Tergurdoid. This is his first time working with Orsellian and it’s been an eye opening experience so far. He has a strong background in making documentaries - his most recent being about the aliens’ struggles with depth perception (as they have only one eye they keep walking into things and they’re rubbish at sports)

The sound recordist is called Famwevvia Murtwai. He’s mute and deaf in 3 of his ears but that doesn’t stop him from creating the unmistakable soundtracks that typify Orsellian’s work. His most acclaimed work has been done on Orsellian’s silent pictures.

Now i have to make this shine through in the painting… easy???
