Hey CG Society!

Thanks for looking, and feel free to comment/critique.

#3

First crack at it. At this point I’m just trying to nail down a general feel.

Thanks for looking, and feel free to comment/critique.

Re-designed my composition. Trying to still make it more dynamic and interesting. I think sub-story and gimmicks still need to be added…

#5

I changed my idea again. This concept is something I think I will enjoy working on more than the previous, and it’s more my graphical style.

Comments and critique always welcome.
Thanks for looking!

Here’s the string layout for the face, and the reference view for modeling the guitar. Feel free to comment/critique. Thanks!

Pre-vis with some of the early elements. I changed the bg to a stage as it’s a little less overdone, and still provides great atmosphere with volumetric lights, tall geometric shapes etc. I’d love some advise at this stage. I haven’t done much shot planning in my career and feel quite green.

Thanks for looking!

OK! This time I might have actually come up with something I like! I’m still going with the Evil Mutant Guitars, but now I think I’ve found my stride.

I love the cheesy 50-70’s stuff, but it just isn’t something I’m interested in creating right now. I’m an 80’s kid and channeling this time period just feels right for me. Also the idea of mutant guitars doesn’t fit the other time periods as well.

As always, please feel free to comment/critique.
Thanks!

Here’s the new Evil Mutant Guitars concept circa 1982.

#10

I modeled this very generic male to be the ‘strangulatorally guitared’ glam victim.

#11

Here is poor Tommy in his non exaggerated pose. I posed him by setting up a quick skeleton, roughing out a pose and then tweaking it with Maya’s sculpting tools. Once I finish the head, neck and boots, I’ll bring it into Mudbox to add the details

#12

Hey Chris,

Cool concept, like a lot the idea of the mutant guitar

Your first stage on modeling looks nice. Good luck and waiting for more updates, cheers!!

#13

Great idea! you must finish this up. Love that first sketch you made, be sure to exaggerate the 3D models.

#14

Thanks for the encouraging words guys!

aimanimation - I’ll try to keep it as close to the sketch as possible. I modeled the victim very generically because I didn’t have a decent base mesh humanoid in my repertoire.

Beers!

#15

working on getting the pose and proportions of the exaggerated head/neck to work. On to the pants and boots…

#16

Doing some tests with Maya hair for the jean frays. I still might go with a horrible tiger spandex pant, but we’ll see…

Maybe spandex under ripped jeans… hmmmm

#17

Hey Chris,

Cool model , like the exageration on the enlogataed neck, great and funny touch. Perhaps you need to stretch the shoulders a bit.
Nice texture for the ripped jeans ( for now looks more a spandex pants) The tiger strips spandex pants sound like a cool idea.

Good work and waiting for more updates. Cheers!!

#18

Some more progress of the ripped jeans with quick final gather and AO.

#19

More modeling, and thinking a lot about future texturing… :S

#20

Some sculpting progress in Mudbox. I find this process difficult, and I am open to any comments. Any.

Thanks
