Averaged multi-constraint with full rotational freedom

#1

Is it possible to have a parent constraint constrained to multiple objects (the objects are in a parented chain)but with no flipping of the constrained object? Let’s say I have constrained object X to these objects. When I rotate the top parent (so that some children rotate in an arc around it, and X is constrained to both the parent and the children) eventually X will flip, and to me it’s not entirely clear where the flip is coming from. I’ve messed with the interpolation options of the constraint but there is still a flip. Basically, what I want is that X just continues its path without the flip.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks.
