Autodesk - We help bring good things to an end

[QUOTE=3DDave]By purchasing Alias and by Alias purchasing Kaydara, in the end Autodesk OWNS ALL debt and liabilities from both companies. Kaydara sold permanent licenses, Alias supported and sold permanent licenses. It is therfore illegal for Autodesk to revok these permanent licenses purchased and used in good faith. Autodesk can discontinue support and upgrades but they can’t leagally make it impossible for you to use your software licenses. [QUOTE]

Isn’t there a 3D hobbyist lawyer among us? I’d put in some $$ to go after Autodesk and try to get them to fulfill their legal obligations. I don’t know about the rest of you, but it would only seem right to form some organized legal response to Autodesks breach of contract

If anyones interested here’s what Autodesk does to seek legal recourse> Autodesk’s Software Compliance- Recent Settlements

So when are they going after China?

#43

Not sure, but what does China have to do with Autodesk screwing us customers?

It was a comment on softdistortion’s legal link.

Gotchya!

I think that if Autodesk actually DOES go through with this, hopefully someone here (with connections?) can help out. I would be willing to add some $$ as some here have already suggested.

a legal challenge? Is there actually a case to answer? I mean, I’m sure Autodesk would have scrutinised their obligations to the letter.
Anyway, I’m giving them to next week to see what answer they have for us. They’ve said they’d put it to management, so I’ll give them a few more days to see what comes of it.

They may just think they have enough money to outlast any legal challenge from an individual. If anyone did have enough cash to take them on then it would be much cheaper to buy MB pro, if you really needed MB.

One thing that puzzles me is, you don’t get a new license when you reinstall the software. You get a new activation code. I may be missing something but to me what they are doing is cancelling your license to use the software. If this is the case then even if you keep MB installed on your system after July 13th it would actually be illegal. I think there’s an argument that Autodesk would be making criminals of us all. I’m no legal expert and I may be talking out of my hat but I’m so pissed off I had to say something (and keep it polite).

I just sent them and email noting my displeasure.
If I don’t get a satisfactory response, there’s always the Better Business Bureau right?

This is a very good point. However, since I never even got the notification email in the first place I can’t go back and re-read it. Does someone have the full transcript of what was sent to registered users? Thanks.

oh, and how’s this for ironic. This is the signature from Autodesks email autoresponder…

"Sincerely,

The Autodesk Business Center

Our Mission: “Deliver a superior customer experience every chance we get.”

I sent an email and received a response from Autodesk support to send all future correspondence to the AutoDesk Legal Department & received two persons to contact (a TL Support Product Engineer, and a Senior Administrative Assistant Legal- with phone numbers)

I typed another email and sent it to them. After that, I’m going to do all future correspondence using registered mail. The more I think about this, the more it bothers me. I’m frustrated by all of this.

I think it’s a build up of similar events that’s made me think “enough is enough”. I purchased some tutorials for a 3D program I have. He promised “purchase now and recieve the updated version 8 materials for Free”… this person never bothered creating these tutorials and now the software is going to version 9. In fact, after 8 was released- he changed his Web Page.

Another individual was selling a plugin… “Buy now and get Version 2 for FREE!”… well guess what? There never was a Version 2, and it’s now being incorporated in the 3D software I own.

Anyway, I don’t enjoy any of this. It just sucks.

Can I ask, well plead actually, could someone in the US of A ring Autodesk and ask them about some of the issues presented here? It’s just I’m in New Zealand and wending my way through hours of voice mail, and “please hold - your call will be attended to shortly” gets very expensive. Asia/South Pacific reps haven’t provided me with an answer yet and I have my doubts I’ll get one as AutoDesk USA calls the shots.

I’m most curious about JimZeppllins post re: cancellation of licenses vs. activation codes etc.

#53

Talk to your reseller they have all the contacts at Autodesk to take this where it needs to go…

#54

Not really possible if he, like me, bought his copy of MB direct from Kaydara. I have MB 5.0/5.5 which I purchased through the 3D World cover disk deal a couple of years ago. I have not been contacted by Autodesk regarding their attempt to change the license terms of the permanent license I paid Kaydara for. I will have to dig out my original license docs, invoices and order forms then get in touch with Trading Standards here in the UK. Unfortunately, it will have to wait a while as I have more important matters to attend to right now.

#55

I never recieved any email either I’ve just been piecing things together from what I’ve heard on the forums.

#56

BBB is useless.

#57

When you get time, please keep us updated of what you find out. I’ll contact my reseller here in NZ, but I’ve tried there once before and they’ve never had anymore luck than I getting anything other than the standard company line.

#58

I’m not sure where I read it - 3D Buzz? - but someone likened this move by Autodesk to a What If it was done by Microsoft. Can you imagine the outcry if M$ decided NOT to allow activation of WindowsXP after they came out with a new OS shortly thereafter?

Interesting comparison.

Is there a particular reason why posts made in this thread in the last 24 hours have been deleted, and the other thread on Autodesk getting rid of MotionBuilder Standard being removed altogether (previously at http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=333947 )?

#60

Nice question.
Perhaps it’s because Autodesk is very “influential”.
But this is “CGTalk”, not “CGCensor”, so it must be an other reason…
