Autodesk Mudbox to be included in 3D apps

#1

I was wondering if any of you ever read an article or heard weather Mudbox technology
is going to be included inside of any of the 3D applications of Autodesk or will it ever
be a separate product.

It would be great to use mudbox features from inside of Maya or 3D Studio max without
so much appllication switching

Thanks

I once read an article, I think it was when Autodesk first purchase Mudbox, that the idea
was to make that technology available for 3D applications, but never after that. I was
also interested in that idea.

Haha i think my heart skipped a beat when i saw the title of the thread! I think you should change it as it’s rather mis-leading.

And i highly doubt there would ever be a merge, Mudbox is fine as a separate application. Autdodesk would just be limiting it’s user base if they done away with Mudbox and plonked it into Maya/Max.

That’s not to say i wouldn’t like Mudbox capabilities in Max though:drool:

I’d second that. But the likelyhood that they’d do that would be slim, I’d think.

They make their decisions based on how much money they can make, not how convenient it is for customers.
It’s not financially viable to merge everything into one big homogeneous application.

Closest thing is either ZBrush or Modo depending on whether sculpting or modelling is more important. ZBrush offers some pretty good modelling tools aimed at more organic forms despite being a little quirky for those used to regular 3d apps. Modo is a superb modeler with animation and rendering built in that offers quite powerful sculpting abilities.

As for whether Autodesk will integrate the apps…I find it very unlikely. They rely on customer loyalty which is why they’ll never integrate Max and Maya or AutoCAD and Viz…why should they when people will buy both?

#7

Unlikely, but that is coming from years of seeing them not integrate products except for smaller plugins.

If anything changes, there will be just better interoperability.

#8

Yes,

I agree with erilaz. I am still wondering if Autodesk will ever make a 3D application by
joining 3DSMax and Maya. What about 3DSMaya? or Maya Max? I think this would be
great because the community of users of an application like that would be great.
Let alone the number of plugins and tutorials that you will find… dream on!

If an open-source program like Blender can, I don’t see why 3DS Max or Maya can not. But I think it is indeed the money that they’re thinking of : why give people one product if they can buy two? They’ll integrate it as soon as sculpting becomes mainstream in every 3D package I think.
