How do standard users get the update?

#3

They (we) don’t. Autodesk strikes again. The company is sheer poison.:banghead:

!#$#$**#!!! I had a bad feeling about this when it wasn’t mentioned in the press release.

#5

$4,000…are they out of their minds???

#6

hey
“includes one year of Autodesk Platinum Membership.”
that sounds too good to be true-- only 4k for Autodesk Platinum Membership.

I assume Autodesk Platinum Membership includes kicking the CEO into his balls as often as you like:twisted:

Surely you’ve got that the wrong way round?
Aren’t Alias kicking their customers, “Hah, suckers, one born every minute”.
S’okay htough, as industry standard leaders I’m sure everyone will willingly upgrade to the Pro version won’t they?

#8

I have v5.5 and I guess this is where I stop.

#9

you’ll need a VERY good ‘aim’ when kicking the CEO…SHE doesn’t have…****!

as for motion builder standard…well must be part of their ‘plan’…you may actually benifet from it in the long term…autosnap-up-comapny may absorbe the standard capabilities of motion builder into maya and 3dsmax for the next release…have to wait n see!

#10

Heh,
Of course, then you have to buy Maya and Max to enjoy them.

So we Have Maya, Max and MB all under one label, next Alias LightwaveAXYA :stuck_out_tongue:

Hehe :scream:
did not know they have a female CEO. Funny.

As for profit in the long term-- you dont believe that, dont you.

Nothing good comes out of this for the users.
FBX will loose its exchange-format appeal (and be replaced by something better like this new exchange format now in XSI, what was the name again), MB will die (or stop development and become FilmBox again for a selected few)
Maya & Max will most likely be merged (say: one has to go in the end)

The unique selling point of Mb, the editor speed, wont show up in Maya or Max (well. it might when quantum computers are standard, but it wont be unique then).

In the end they will most likely sabotage the FBX format in a way that makes it unusable for other apps (microsoft strategy).

And dont you hate this soft-dongle crap now, fearing that when you buy a new computer that AutoF**k wont give out a new key to port your old version over to the new machine.

And this kind of policy sure does not make me consider buying one of their allpurpose 3D apps instead, if only because I feel customers are not treated the way I prefer it .

If anything, this makes XSI look better to me.
Also it might be worth waiting for the next rev of C4D to see what they come up with (reworked animation for sure-- until it comes out, my MB will work fine I guess) before jumping XSI bandwagon–.

whilst xsi mabe cheap for the foundation version i personally found it ‘okay’ but lacking in fundemental logic for workflows in day to day use coming from using 3dsmax and lightwave
and trying to convert ot xsi…if you do go down that route i’d REALLY reccoment digital tutors intro to xsi as they explain xsi’s werid n wonderful ways of doing things…quite different to other apps…not all good ways either!..though riggin is rather neat.

#13

ah-- was just emotional ranting anyway.
XSI wont be the solution to my main problem:

to deliver CA animation to different companies using different software (one using Max another c4d, another has practically everything (except MB).

MB provides a wonderful way to do that , its right on spot and relatively reliable.
But MB pro is financially out of my league.

I will sit it out i guess and use my MB7 as long as I can, meanwhile waiting for another app to fill the gap.
Modo? (just kidding, but who knows when the day comes–).

Kinda makes me glad I didn’t upgrade to the latest version. I guess I must’ve felt something like this was gonna happen. Now it looks like I will have to seriously look (again) at Messiah. So much for Steve B. - the former president of Kaydara - for saying the product would continue to grow for us. Oh well…

Both versions of 7 are still available. If you are interested in continuing with MB standard, but not Pro, LET AUTODESK KNOW!

#16

I actually already did that - for all the good it will do. The more I think about it, the more angry I become. I use LW - what did they think I would do? Buy Max with CS? Upgrade to the Pro version? For THAT amount? I would REALLY like to know what they were thinking when they made this decision. Are there that many studios “out there” using the standard edition (and then “forced” to upgrade to the Pro version) that it would offset the number of people who are hobbyists that would upgrade? Does it really cost them so much money to maintain two versions that it’s not cost-effective?

In addition to Messiah, there’s also Animanium - though neither (IMO) are as versatile as MB. This is a sad day for the MB hobbyist.

Amen to that, it’s a sad day for our project as we use MB5 and MB5 Pro but we are all hobbyists so “Hey, let’s just throw money at it” is not an option at all. Plus, you’d be kinda mad to do that IMO.
I just hope the LW9.X cycle for LW and some updated for Maestro give us some “MB Lite” features so as and when the day arrives where they ain’t handing out MB5.5 keys any more, I can just bin the software and write off my bad experience with Alias. :banghead:

#18

I see that indeed you can still purchase the 7 upgrade. I wonder if I should upgrade from 5.5 to 7? What do you all think about purchasing it knowing that this version will be the end of the line?

#19

Depends on how and how often you use MB, I guess.

MB7 has some nice productivity enhancing features, all in all its a nice update.

The rest of the situation is frustrating at least.
It would at least be fair of Autodesk to ensure the MB 7 update customers that they will provide serials when hardware is changed on the end of the user.(Then-- the chances to get new serials for MB7 will be higher then to get them for MB5, I guess).

Ultimately I think if I were you I woud contact Autodesk sales rep and see if you can squeeze some more information out of him.

I cant belive this… autodesk sucks! pff…

Anywayz had this question while feleing verry insecured now… im going to attend a private school Escape Studio wich cost 10.000 pounds to learn maya… i dont care about the money but the thing is, is it worth learning maya now that autodesk is kinda screwing with our minds? Will hollywood studios still use maya as their standart software?

So many question damn…
