Augmented Reality, anyone?

#1

Hi everybody,

I´m currently working in the preproduction of a project of augmented reality. We are trying to use Blender, exporting our files via .dae (the collada 1.4.1 exporter). The end product will be developed in Flarkit and performed in flash with papervision. I have read some previous threads regarding the absence of a good python exporter for animation in Blender, though I suppose that was somehow improved. The fact is that our tests succeded when dealing with simple transformations, as translation, but failed miserabilly when trying to export animation driven by armatures.

Has anybody out there succeded where the others (that´s me) failed?

Oh, and you know, I would be sooooo much happy if there were a solution to avoid using 3DMax (Blender beats the hell out of Max in terms of budget).

what version of blender are you guy’s using, the 2.5 (unstable) or the oldie-but-a-goodie 2.49?

in 2.49 I wouldn’t be surprised if the fbx exporter does a better job for animation export,
in 2.5 what with the new scripting api all the scripts(including I/O) needed to be rewritten,
and as part of last years GSoC two brothers entered,
one wrote and validated the new python import/export api,
the other wrote the new collada support(much better I believe),
so if you really need to export in collada, it just might be an option to jump trough 2.5x just for the export.

Thanks for the info.
Using 2.49 right now.
We´ll give 2.5 a try tho’ i was planning to wait for 2.3 for including this new version in the pipeline. The fbx option may be worths a test tho’ I have not worked with the format before and don’t even know how could translate to Flarkit (hope the code boys in the team have any idea).
