ATI NormalMapper

#1

I am using ATI’s normalmapper for a job. The only problem I encountered is that I can’t view the normal mapped models with the provided viewer.
On the command line, after selecting the files to be viewed and their map,I get the message:

“No GL_EXT_texture_env_dot3 support!”

Any help appreciated!

The provided viewer uses the fixed function pipeline to render the normal mapped model. ENV_DOT3 is an OpenGL extension that performs a per-fragment dot product between the normal and the light vector (well, any two vectors really but in this case it’s N.L). What video card are you running the viewer on? Have you installed the latest drivers for this video card? If that doesn’t work you should contact devrel@ati.com and report the issue. Also, if you’re able to write your own shaders you could download RenderMonkey http://www.ati.com/developer/rendermonkey/index.html which supports the normal mapper’s file format. You could use RenderMonkey to write a very simple shader for visualizing the normal mapper’s results (in fact, there’s probably a sample workspace that ships with RenderMonkey that does exactly this).

Best of luck!

Darn me, nobody knows about ATI’s normal mapper? You must be kidding me!!

It means your graphics card does not have the necessary OpenGL extension to run it. (ala its doesn’t support the GL_EXT_texture_env_dot3 extension.)

Find a workaround using other OpenGL extensions or get a newer card.

chrisATI, I posted my second comment before your reply shows on this board. I don’t know why is the delay, thanks both guys for the reply. I should go for a new card i think;p

I think the delay is due to the fact that I have never posted before so my posts have to be OK’d by a moderator. As far as getting a new video card is concerned, the OpenGL extension in question is pretty old and should be supported on all cards dating back to the original Radeon (came out around 2000 or 2001 I think).
