Assigned a material to the wrong object.

How do I remove it? I’m a C4D user trying to break into Maya. Usually on C4D’s version of the outliner, you’d see a tag of the material assigned to object.

(look on the right side, those spheres are the materials)

All I need to do is select one of those materials, and hit delete. The object is a blank mesh again. Also at the bottom would be cinema4D’s version of the hypershade. So how do I do the same on Maya?

Right click on object and go to near bottom of the popup menu and choose > assign existing material > lambert1

Another way:
select the object
open the hypershade, long right click on the propper shader ball and in the top of the marking menu you will see assign material to selected.
drag up and you are done.

Maya has this concept of default shader, called lambert1 this cannot be deleted or renamed. this is the shader that is assigned to every new object. So if you want to reset something to default material you simply assign this shader. One note here: it is possible in maya to have a geometry without shaders. These show up bright green in the viewport (actually the color of the wireframe).

Oh wow, that makes sense. Thanks!
