artifacts in displacement, how to get rid of them?

#1

Hello,
I’ve purchased the quadspinner might terrains vo.1 tutorials and when I apply the instructions, I cannot manage to get the same result as his, i.e. there are artifacts in the displacement I can’t get rid of, the mesh is destroyed or overlapped at some areas.
Does anyone knows how to fix that? I tried to boost quality in displ. tab but without success. Is there options for mesh subdivision/tesselation?
Thank you

What kind of mesh is the object? I haven’t seen Dax’s training so I’m not sure what kind of objects are used in the training.

I know some baked meshes in Vue can have normal direction issues.

Displacements have changed quite a bit between Vue 8 and 9, was the training produced in the same Vue version you are using?

if you can host the scene file, I’d be more than happy to take a look and point out anything i can find.

Thank you for your answer,
I was definitely thinking that vue section in cgsociety wasn’t frequented.
This tut was mase for vue 8. The object is a metablob made of some spheres and toruses. I saw later on that every object has it’s own behavior depending on its shape and texture, and vice-versa.
This is a matter of experimenting the functions, sometimes the displ. works well on a certain object, and not on an another, etc.
I finally got rid of these artifacts by changin texture and/or object’s shape. I don’t know exactly what fixed this situation but…
Thank you
