Arnold for Maya Ambient Occlusion Bump AOV Issue

#1

Okay…whew that was a long title. So I was wondering if anyone has run into this issue:

If you have an AOV on your beauty render layer that you call OCC and connect the outColor of an aiAmbientOcclusion, if you pipe a bump2d node into that aiAmbientOcclusion node you effectively break the AOV that it’s connected to and it renders as black (with proper alpha). It can be either normal map mode or bump mode. Breaks with textures or with procedurals.

Anyone know a workaround to get Bumped Occlusion in an AOV? Yes I know I can just make another render layer…just trying to optimize/experiment!

It happens not only with aiAmbientOcclusion but also with any aiUtility you use for AOVs. But if you connect that ‘bumpy’ aiUtilyty to surfaceMaterial slot of a shading group it renders properly in a beauty pass. But in AOV it renders as a black hole. Looks like an old bug.
