Arm Rigging Problem

#1

Hi Guys

I am very new to rigging and have been following a tutorial for a character rig and up until now it has gone well.

Now that I have finished making the skeleton and skinning the character I need a bit of help with the arm, when I rotate it fully the mesh deforms really badly, I have used weight maps which have helped slightly but there is still a big problem here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Paul

You are rotating the arm far past what a real arm can do. try to rotate your own arm up like that. You can’t. Once your arm is almost straight out to the side, its your shoulder (the clavicle in your rig) that takes over, so you need to rotate that from this point onwards.

MattRennie has a point. There are two parts to the shoulder rotation. Your shoulder joint can only move from your arms down to your side up into a tpose. What takes it further from there is the clavicle. However if you still wanted your model to move like this you could probably customize your weights.

To do so, go into your Animation menu set, and then go to Skin/Edit Smooth Skin/Paint skin weights tool
