I would like to say, great overall composition. i can get a real sense of the emotion behind the character. The hair flows and frizzes as it actually does in life, showing the imperfection that makes a piece truly resemble reality. very well done :applause:
Looking good. My only suggestion would be to work on blending the transitions between colors to give it a more polished overall feel.
Polish may or may not be the goal of the artist. Some of the most admired painters in human history had very expressive brushwork where there are all kinds of brush marks in the painting–from impasto, bristle marks, scumbling, splattering, washes, stamping, to palette knife marks.
The hair could use some cleaning up, simply because you have strands that just terminate and don’t go anywhere (as opposed to actually connected to her scalp). Follow through with where each strand is going–whether it’s disappearing behind other strands, or going in front of other strands.
Some consistency/coherency would help too. If you are depicting the eyelashes and hair strands are detailed, clean lines, then all of a sudden the brows are just kind of vague impressions, it sort of defies the logic of your level of detail in the painting. Pick one approach (very literal, or impressionistic), and stick to it–it tends to create a more coherent/consistent look.
I’m not a fan of eye-catching signatures–they distract too much and ruin the composition of the artwork. I tend to let my signature blend into the artwork more.
Do you want this to have a traditional portrait feel? If so, you’ll need to reconsider the composition. But if it’s just a practice, then it doesn’t matter as much.
That is true. To me it looks like there are trying to capture a lot of detail. And personally I think the piece would be more successful if they pushed it farther.
Coheerency is a good word to use.
