Hi guy’s

because I’v been in North Pole with my friend and bercause it was really amazing and alot of references around…I took a lot of pictures and I decide to do some new matte about that.
I will extend the raw photography, and Ill do some kind of cave. On the photo is me, so it will be like I am walking to some cave through giant stairway...etc. I would like to use fantasy (Diablo) mood.So we'll see what happen ;) Here is the photography + a few references to show you what Ill be working with.

Awesome, really look forward to seeing how this turns out. Check out Chris Thunigs work on his website for some inspiration if you havent already, as he has some awesome work in a similar theme.

I’m interested to see what you come up with, especially because of the snow and general weather conditions, the landscape is largely featureless.

#4

Cool man, lots of potential to add anything you want. Can’t wait to see what you do.

Ok, here is a few WIP’s. I extend the plate, and start working on the mountain rocks. Its just for fun and practice. Not that easy with colour palette and atmosphere…it needs to match perfectly. All the errors in color, lighting and saturation are very visible :argh: damn!

And thoughts welcome
Thanks.G.

Just another WIP to show, which way I am going to. Hope you like that
right now I am working on those pillars (rocky pillars). I know is doesn’t match yes, but I am working on it right now.

#7

Coming along very nicely! keep the wips coming

#8

Wow, this looks great. I really like the way its coming on - look forward to seeing the updates!

#9

Thanks guy’s!

I am working on it right now. And the next one will be huge! I want to do a proper Babylon city with Babylon Tower. I`ll start working on it by weekend. Switching between these two :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey Degerardo, looks good so far. Interesting starting point to work from such a ‘flat’ plate. I think that’s a good thing as it allows much scope to direct the matte wherever you want.

My small comment…which is quite general i guess…is about posting image size. I have a 19" sq monitor. Many times people post huuuge mattes in this forum where i can see the detail well but can’t judge overall composition because i have to scroll across to see all of the matte. Does anyone else have this problem? or do i just need to buy a bigger monitor… (actually in this case degerardos image is not too bad, just a bit large for me)

Maybe when posting a matte it would be good practice to post a large version for detail as well as a smaller thumbnail size image just so its easy for others to gauge overall composition/lighting for a matte. Would be interested to hear others thoughts on this…

keep it up degerardo, lookin nice

If you’re using firefox you can press CTRL and +/- to zoom in or out of the web page. I assume other browsers have their own versions of that feature.
Nice job so far. Looks pretty seamless.

#12

Wow, I think that looks like a great start degerado. I am very excited to see how this turns out for you.
And TomasWarren, I had the same problem. I started using the Ctrl +/- in Firefox awhile back like Tangster suggested, it is a life saver for people with smaller monitors.

#13

North Pole?? :open_mouth: How old are you dude?

#14

Thank you guy’s! I`ll be working on it tomorrow, today is my fried birthday so we having BBQ party at the house. Alot of fun! :stuck_out_tongue:
I am 27
Yes, north pole :stuck_out_tongue: sooooo goooood! I can just recommend that!

Hey guy’s here is another wip. I am working on it guy’s, yes, I am working on it…
I’m just busy with my work and other stuff around me
Than I really looking forward for Babylon city with Babylon tower! :stuck_out_tongue:

I know there are alot of errors, but its still wip. Now I am working on sky and integration of fire into the rocks and mood. Maybe more darker blue…

Thank you! G.

#16

BTW: There will be more and more stuff. Like a castle, cave, bridges, giant chains with hooks etc. :stuck_out_tongue:

#17

Hey man , its coming along nice! It seems to me that you might be missing some third point perspective. Missing the sort of depth you would see as if you were looking up a mountain.

#18

Looks great bud. I’ve never seen torches in a snowstorm, but would they fade with distance? Great integration with each of the rock pieces…

#19

Matellis - yes, I know I am working on it. First I have to set up the main rocks and change the parspective. There two guy’s are just temp or better say the main pillars from castle  thank you my man. Very good point!

phix314 - yes I know, its just a bit of fantasy. Just a try, you know… in old ages, in some places they used them in the open area, but they were covered with metal cover. I don’t know, maybe I`ll don’t put them in the scene at the end. Everything is in layers, so It will be easy to just turn off the layers  Thank you

ok… I greate background and I start to work on the cathedral for now. The shape is not finish as you can see  I don’t know if I should change this overcast light to night or leave it like that original for more realistic look. Because if I change it, it looks more fantasy… :argh: I`ll see.

ok, here, hope you start like it :surprised :

ouuu I start to look for references of babylon. I collect nice architecture facts and plans of the city and tower… I can’t wait to do it - lot of fun
