Applying Eyelashes to eyelid rig.

#1

I have a rigged character where the eyes are controlled by joints.

At first I thought I would have to bind the eyelashes to the joints and weight them as close as I can to the eyelid.

An instructor said I should just apply a wrap deformer to the eyelashes from the entire face geometry. We Tried that and the ends of the eyelashes don’t follow. So I messed with the settings of the wrap deformer but I cant seem to get the tips of the eyelashes to follow through.

Does anyone know how I can get this wrap deformer to work properly or should I just go back to painstakingly skin weight each eyelash with the joints?

Forget it I figured it out.

I duplicated the eyelid geometry and extruded it out covering the eyelashes. Then I applied a wrap deformer with that geometry to the eylashes. The I rigged that geometry to the skeleton and weighted it which took about 15 minutes.

Now it works like a charm.

Do the eyelashes follow when you globally scale? I find that wrap deformers have scaling issues later on down the line so I usually use a rivet/folicle parented joint to connect the verts of one mesh to another. This scales more with a bit more stability.

If you have an extra step that allows the wrap to follow the mesh correctly when the character size is reduced then your method may work great. So I’m just saying check and make sure as I have found some small issues with that wrap approach.
