Apparently I'm not done....

This should help both composition wise and for clarity.
Switched it so the single pterosaur is now two, with one on the side closest to the viewer.
I’ll also ensure the pterosaurs are a different colour, the original colour was way too close to the spino’s colour.

Yep, I think you are headed in a better direction. And do change the tail.

Is there any tutorials/articles on this so I can understand it better?

Yes there are. Here’s a link to a nice overview one. The Secret to Composition Tut
Hope that helps.

@Lunatique: Maybe you should have that response you gave stickied somewhere so others can understand the process better as well.

Hello EvilGnome,
Overall I like this image and I think it has good potential. When I first looked at it I mistook the nostril for the eye. From a distance it is difficult to see the eye, this gives it an emotionless feel. The most bothersome technical detail to me is the way that the shading appears to have been applied in post via a fuzzy white brush that makes the creature appear completely smooth. The cracks between scales should break that up a bit. Also, many areas of this painting are lacking detail/contrast…in particular the grass on the left side, the nest, the leaves up top. The fuzzy edges on the feet should be crisp. For this type of image I just think it needs another level of detail to go from sketch to final painting.

Generally I knew most of those theoretically, but I guess that I am not that successful on applying them in my works. Thanks… Will go through them more in depth with practice.

Thanks for the input Stuh505. I’ve taken what you & Luna have said on board… there are some things I disagree with a little, I have to be especially careful how I wield detail for example, but saying that, keep your eye out there will be a revision soon!

Cheers,

'gnome
