Anyone using ZBrush and Cinema 4D?

#1

I don’t use ZBrush but I’m a Cinema 4D veteran and, some time ago, a ZBrush/3DCoat/Cinema 4D user contacted me to know if I could create a way to make Cinema 4D use the polypaint information that is included in the .OBJ files exported from ZBrush.

So, I created a set of tools to deal with that missing feature in Cinema 4D. But, in the process, I created much more that just a tool to load RGB information from .OBJ files.

I created tools that allow for the loading, saving, creation and editing of true Vertex/poly painting on any editable mesh.
My plugin reads RGB information stored inside .OBJ files saved in zBrush/3DCoat or meshlab format. It also allows to save .OBJ files (in ZBrush format) that include that RGB information. The same for .FBX files (in version 6.x, ASCII format).

But true Vertex/Poly painting can be created from scratch too.

Check out these videos I created while developing the plugins:

And this is the promo video:

I’m getting ready to produce a longer demo movie, showing how all tools works.
So, now there is a better bridge between ZBrush and Cinema 4D. Before, only mesh data was available. Now, even PolyPaint colors can be swapped in and out of Cinema 4D.
Let me know what you guys think

I found them interesting , I have been working with Zbrush for about a year before c4d came out with their sculpting module, Zbrush is light years ahead of c4d sculpting, c4d does not even integrate bodypaint with their sculpture mod. I wish they would have skipped that mod completely, If they would have concentrated on integration with Zbrush, and other game engines , and imported rigs. The c4d would be of more use to me. I use it to animate and render. and that’s about all, I do all my modeling in Zbrush now. Am waiting for Zbrush 4r7 this month, to see if it works better with c4d. I will check back then to see your final product.
Your plug seems good if you want to use c4d deformers, I will have to see if there are other possibilities.

Cinema 4D is not intended as a sculpting app, even if it includes sculpting tools
It is a full purpose tool (modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, rendering, etc).
The BodyPaint part of Cinema 4D is very, very nice but it relies on UV/bitmaps.
My toolset relies solely on vertex painting, requiring no UVs.
So, it fills a gap in the Cinema4D toolset.

Here is the manual, so that everyone could see what it does:
