any way to render without atmosphere BG?

#1

is there any way to render an animation without the atmosphere, just black? i know when i render out the targa sequences, it embed’s the alpha channel in the image, but i figure if there’s a way to disable the atmosphere background… maybe render time can speed up a tad? =P

thanks

I don’t do animation so I’m not sure if you can literally disable the sky for a render, although there is a ‘render only selected objects’ setting which I assume might ignore the atmo.

Setting up an all black atmosphere from the start is easy. Edit atmosphere:
Standard lighting model, under the ‘sky’ tab set your sky color map to black (or white, or whatever color you like). Turn off all clouds, fog and haze.

You can maintain your sun/light settings with a black atmo but if your animation is dependent on shadows from clouds or godrays/haze effects this won’t work for you. (obviously  )

You can select “Environment Mapping” as your Atmosphere model in teh Atmosphere Editor.

This allows for picture to be used as background. Just leave the default settings and you have kind of black background. With the help of Alpha output enabled in the multipass rendering and you can skip the background all together.
