No show stopers, if by show stopers you mean something that crashes Modo? then no. however, few issues i encounter with modo for the past week of usage.

  1. Symmerty tool is abit buggy. I would lose symmerty after doing a polygonal operation(usually with smooth shift). I would have to delete one half and copy/paste flip, merge vertex…

  2. Smooth Shift is unperdictable at time. under normal condition it works, but where you have a intersection of 6+ edge its results in a bad smooth shift(which i manually have to go in and dissolve a few edges here and there)

thats about it for me.

edit: removed one comment, not valid anymore.

modo crashes unpredictably under some Nvidia grafx cards…

mine is Nvidia GeForce Ti4400…i cant use modo reliably becuase it will crash anywhere from a few minutes onwards…

#5

Are you using the nVidia 66.81 drivers?

In general some interactive tools isn’t always so fast if I want to use the tools properties with it and it comes very slow --> bad flow.

my conf : Bi Xeon 3.0 Ghz and QUADRO 980 XGL with the nVidia 66.81 drivers.

Hi,
I’m not sure what version of Modo everyone is using that is running stable, but so far, for me, Modo has been the most unstable app I’ve ever used, and I’m on a G5 with an ATI card. I CONSTANTLY crash, I mean every 10 minutes i’m going down, and I’m not doing anything heavy-duty. Don’t get me wrong, its a great app and I look forward to maintenance updates, but for now, its hard to get anything done. Just my experience…

the only ‘show stopper’ that I am aware of is this:

With large poly objects (500,000-1,000,000 polys) modo will crash guaranteed within a short time period when cutting and pasting or saving versions of the file.

This can be seen by watching the page file enlarge itself incrementally untill the app crashes.

It basically makes modo unuseable in its current state for high poly objects.

If they were really “show stoppers” you would have run into them yourself if you used it enough for a review article. There are plenty of people that use it without crashes. I personally haven’t seen anything that I would call a show stopper here. I’m not saying that the other posters aren’t having problems.

It is impossible for ANYONE to use modo for high poly objects at this point and if that is not a ‘show stopper’ I don’t know what is.

Modo is great software but until the memory bug is fixed, Modo can be considered strictly as a ‘low poly modeler’.

cheers,

Me too spinnage. The menu bar bug is particularly evil, it brings my dock down with modo. This is the first crash I’ve ever experienced under OSX that required a restart.

 im having trouble at 5K-10,000 polygons let alone the numbers your talking about

little show stoippers i see are that :

  1. Edge slice tool isn’t exactly like Maya one or better sometimes is more difficult to work with this tool than in Maya.
  2. We’d like to have the possibility to map keys how we want to, like in Silo
  3. stability. Modo crashes alot on some configurations . hope that now the prob is solved with new Nvidia drivers.
  4. simmetry is kinda buggy sometimes. the app should be able to work very well in persp view only. in this case a simmetry bug isn’t the best thing to have.
  5. SDK isn’t out yet.
  6. UV tooset could be way better.

For a 1.0 release Modo is a good app though. i wanna see it to grow on serious steroids, and this will surely happen. Due to the great experience of Lux programmers, the start could have been a bit better IMHO.
