Any recommendations for books for learning Houdini?

#1

Hi there,

I’m a 3D artist who has been using max for FX for several years now in TVC work and film.

I’m starting to learn Houdini and I was wondering if anybody could recommend any books that can assist me in learning it more quickly? I’ve been looking at online training videos, but would also like some book reading material, so that I can still learn while not required to be in front of the computer screen all the time.

Thanks!

Steve

Unfortunately there are no up to date books.

There are a few books on the SideFX website - “The Magic of Houdini” and “Houdini on the Spot”.

Has anybody had a look at these? I’ve noticed that these books were written for Houdini 9, but is the content still relevant to the current version?

Thanks again

hey Johnny,

i would recommend both though The Magic of Houdini is long in the tooth
and better suited for people very new to houdini.

On the Spot though is a must have - lots of gold in there, highly recommend.

Steve!

On the Spot is indeed full of goodies. Quite a few ‘oh that’s very cool’ moments in there.
