Does anyone know any info about the developers and whether any industry product will be offered in the near future? If not, how might they finance their future development?
Part of my interest in this has to do with sheer curiosity about the techniques employed from a professional/creative standpoint. Part of my interest is concern particularly given that the avenue I first learned of this stuff came from political news in the context of false forthcoming political propaganda. It makes me wonder if this represents a part of Phase 2 of the Russian cutout political propaganda program.
Looking at mobile apps like Snapchat filters, Instagram filters, FaceApp and Muglife (Austin/Ontario connection) etc. desktop apps like Wrap 4/ZWrap and now these Deepfakes mostly coming from Russia or close to Russia with no obvious source of revenue and no professional CG industry presence. It all makes me get a little paranoid thinking of conspiracy theories like what if all these free phone apps and others are essentially getting their data purchased to by nefarious actors with nefarious plans to train AI for building confusing political propaganda to defraud the American election again?
I mean there’s no way to know how the mobile app developers are getting paid or who they are sharing data with and it’s clear the tech Goliath Facebook could be bought by anyone, smaller companies that are more financially vulnerable likely would be willing to risk more.
The only thing I know about these “Deepfakes” created by youtube user “Cntrl SHIFT FACE” is that “Deep” as a term has been most recently associated with the Alt-Right/White Supremacist movement and their identification/fabrication of the fictitious “DeepState” in American politics. I know that allegedly “Ai” is a major component of the “Deepfake” techniques, the artist(s) is based in Slovakia and the content has most likely been cloud rendered on a service called Paperspace, which also seems to have no real professional presence/footprint in the US or any other VFX industry. Where’s the money coming from, where’s the proposed future revenue coming from if not VFX industry professionals?
Any more information on these matters from people that might know would be great.
