Animation not mapping correctly from Actor to Character

#1

Hi All,

I’ve been struggling for days to find the solution to this problem without luck, so I’m hoping you guys may be able to help me.

As seen in the screenshot below, the actor’s arms (animated via optical motion capture) move correctly, while the character’s arms do not move proportionally, and cross over to the opposite side of the body. The legs and other areas of the character move correctly.

I’ve used the standard character (Mia) which comes with MotionBuilder and she works fine, so I assume it’s a problem with my skeleton, however for some reason I can’t import the Mia .fbx files into XSI v6.5 without it crashing so I can’t compare her skeleton against mine.

I’ve used my own skeleton, and 2 different versions of the XSI skeletons (SI3D & Regular) however they all suffer from the same problem.

I can’t find anything related to creating\preparing a skeleton in XSI for export to MB, and I’m really at a dead end now. Can anyone offer any help/suggestions?

Cheers.

Make sure that before you chracterize your skeleton the arms are strait out and or match the starting T pose of the mocap data as close as posible. Any angle in the arms from a T creates offsets in the mapping like your seeing there.

Check your arm reach T settings and another thing you can check is set the arm reach to 0 and set the elbow reach T…

Cheers for the help, I was making the mistake of moving the actor to match the mocap data rather than the other way around.
