Animation Master errors

#1

I am currently using AM 9.5 with the latest patch. (1)I installed Quicktime about a month ago, allowing me to save animation in MOV format. Now all of the sudden, AM says that I cannot save squat in MOV format. I fully uninstalled QT and reinstalled and the problem still existed. (2) When I installed the 9.5 update patch AM lost all of the library files and I mean all of them. They are still there and usable, but I have to search for them through AM. When I link them or bookmark them into AM, when I restart, they are lost again. (3) I installed 2 CD Roms into my computer and I am not sure but this may be causing some of the problems I am running into . I wish I was sure but I already tried to run AM on either drive and the same problem existed.

I have a lot of animation work but they are mainly ships and weapons. If anyone can help me out please lend a hand. Thank you.

You might want to uninstall AM (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs) and then delete all references to AM in your registry…you can do that by running “Regedit” in the Start/Run window and searching for “Hash”. Then reboot and re-install the “2001stuff.exe” (for 9.5) and AM.

I had a few strange things happen after installing AM several times over older versions and that seemed to clear it up.

Hope this helps.

I hope it works cause here it goes. I noticed that when I installed the 9.5 update patch it makes a totally new directory labled “9.5” Can I delete the older original directory without any problems?

And just to know, how does AM 9.5 run under windows 2000 pro?

it runs great under 2000, and XP.

10.5 and Win2k or XP is the best way to go!

If it was an older directory for AM 9.5, it should’ve been overwritten if it didn’t get deleted in the uninstall (unless you manually named it something else while installing it previously or there were files added like materials etc that were not part of the original install). If it was another version of Animation Master or just a renamed location for 9.5, you can delete it without any problems…be sure to get your files that you added like exporters, materials and such if you don’t have backups so that you can put them into the new directory.

Well I’m glad to hear that win 2k and AM 10.5 is a key match, but I’ll have to wait until I have $300; $100 for the AM upgrade and about $200 for win 2k…maybe later. I did a full uninstall just as Itsjustme suggested and it worked half way. I was thrilled to see erasing directories as vast as AM in the registry didn’t kill my computer. The full erase and install did allow my AM to once again save in Quicktime .Mov format, thanks for the help. Still I cannot get AM 9.5 to see the libraries. I added a shortcut in the Library thingy under Customization and the folders showed up but no files (stuff in the folders). Yes I did restart AM. In AM 9.0 everything is, as it should. 9.0 loads all the library stuff from the CD but 9.5 refuses to. I have yet to do it the hard way, that is, making individual links to the library files. I really want to make my 9.5 as friendly as I can so I can get on the ball on this animation thing. Thanks for all the help people.

This brings up an issue that’s been driving me nuts for awhile now: Why, oh why can’t software developers make uninstallers that delete all their registry keys (or at least give the user this option)? It’s not just Hash. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a prog that removes all of it’s registry information when it’s uninstalled, and it often causes problems later on (with reinstallations, upgrades, etc.).:banghead:

One thing you might try is skipping the 9.0 install…9.5 isn’t a patch, it’s the entire program. Maybe what has happened is that the 9.0 install puts the library links in your registry for that install and doesn’t update it when you install 9.5.

That would mean completely uninstalling like you did before (including the registry deletions) and installing just the 9.5 version. That should clear everything up…well, as far as I know.

I’ve noticed that the AM 9.5 file is about 10 MB smaller than the 9.0 install. I found that there is this icon with a small question mark in it that is just over 10 mb. Also, all the modeling window color schemes are not in the 9.5 install which is kind of a bummer, but I just cut and paste and they are on 9.5.

Hook I hear you. I like the old DOS days (Still has Dos 6.3) where you delete a folder and poof, that’s it. I’ll do the full uninstall and then just reinstall with 9.5 and see what happens.

There are two versions of AM, the network version (which is around 14 meg) and the single computer version (about 7 meg). For the 2002 version (9.51), they are both located here:

ftp://ftp.hash.com/pub/updates/windows/Am2002

The single computer version is “AM2002.EXE”, the network version is “NET2002.EXE”. Before installing either one you also need the “2001Stuff.exe” from the CD installed.

The final version of 9.x is 9.51e.
