Animation (feedback needed)
hi joefu!
I’ll be short… Good start but you need more expressive poses. Broke him and check out silhouette. By my experience it’s better to make him in extreme poses on start and later it’s simple to calm down poses. This is my advice at first glance.
Hi
It looks nice so far. There’s one thing that looks a little odd but because the video is so short, I’m having trouble pausing it at an exact time. So I’ll try to explain:
While he’s doing the wind-up with is arm, the part from where the hand is in front to where it is back above his head, seems a little linear to me. You possibly need to add another pose halfway in that movement to make the motion of the arm/hand appear more circular.
I’m not a professional animator so pardon me if this is a stupid question: It seems counter productive to me that you would want to have such hard pose-to-pose motion (I assume that’s what you mean by blocking) to begin with. Is there any reason why you don’t simply do f-curved animation from the start?
first and foremost, thanks for the feed back. secondly, why i use a hard pose to pose is because, I find it easier and quicker to work this way . when i see that it looks good, i then chance it to spline in the graph editor. after that all i have to do is tweak the craves to help polish the animation. also using this method give me more control. but somethings it depends on the animation i’m doing.
What Uncle-ox said, seems to be a pose missing right before he throws. Maybe a bit more exaggerated follow through once the ball is released. Have you videoed someone throwing like this for reference? I’m not suggesting you try to copy a video, but it might give you some ideas for polishing this.
thanks for the reply, I’ve acted out some reference footage, so should be able to show my progress soon.
ok i’ve done a few adjustment as suggested, the timing is a bit out of place, and some of the follow through are missing but i’m still working on it. as usual i need feed back to help me polish it to its final stage.
i feel like some poses could have been pushed but i’ll let you be the judge of that.

This looks a lot better. The motion feels a lot more lifelike. I see what you mean with the follow-through but appart from that it looks really nice. Well done.
