A little production shot here.

Took me a long time just to get to this initial pose. But it was pretty cool working it out. First I had myself leaning forward like my sketch where my body was like a C shape towards the wall. Then I thought what if I was thinking or saying something else before the “no more tricks” line. So I pretended I said something like “all right, I guess I’ll have to tell you… no more tricks…” I found myself with a different pose, like a reverse C away from the wall. But then it still didn’t look right so I tried posing myself again and found my torso was leaning forwards making an S curve instead. I ended up liking that pose.

Also I was resting my head on my arm/wall, so if I didn’t have that wall I’d fall forward. I tested this on Maya by hiding the wall to see if it would look like Hogan would fall forward, so that’s how I found how far he should be from the wall and how much to lean.

I don’t mean to sound pretentious or wordy but this is the kind of stuff why I love animation.

If I’m over analyzing this or maybe not enough analyzing let me know. This is where I would ask for any hardcore critiques. And this is only on the first pose!! :argh:

This is my first shot for mini challenges. I understand angry face from this line. I’d be glad if you give me feedback…

here’s my w.i.p.

SirRon- I say the better pose is the line of action with the s curve. This pose shows he has had enough and has the will to say “no more tricks, no more lies…” The line of action with the c curve would be best for the sigh before “only truth”.

CuneytGuclu- The facial animation needs to sync better with the dialogue. He could use more poses in the animation as well. The eyes sync and look good. Personally i would have done all the key poses first then layered the face animation on top of that. Your off to a good start!

#66

Very good point, much appreciated.

CuneytGuclu: I agree with dudeacle with his comments. It would help to have the mouth shapes happen just before he says the phonemes. We should see it before we hear it. Also maybe some small shoulder movement would be nice since we have a close up of them.

hey guys awsome posts … here is my bit

Looks good. I think the right elbow should be turned out more. It blends in to much into the rest of the body, imo. Remember to keep track of your sihouettes.

#69

Great to see alot of interest and progress in this one.Everyone off to flying starts.Hope to get the “lost something” scene animated.
Just using LowMax2 rig modded a little bit to play the part of a carpenter.

Hello guys,
Well i´m new at Cgtalk, i´ve always sneaked other peoples work, and never posted anything. I´m from Brazil, so sorry about any annoying english mistake :D. I´m new to animation, I guess that i´m animating for about 8 months. And only now I had courage ( not to saying anything about the lazyness :stuck_out_tongue: ) to post something.

well… there it is… the sketch… photoshop… a capture… and the final!!
I did it in my short spare time… so i probably won´t fix any mistakes…My final goal was to study lypsnc. I quite liked it, hehe.

so… please be free to critic… and if I have to send the final scene please contact or leave orientations!!

Final:

thank´s,

AuloLicinio: Maybe I should’ve picked a longer clip or made the deadline shorter, people are already reaching final  I like the head and body movement Aulo. The right hand has too many poses so it’s moving very fast when he breaths before ‘only truth’. Try making it simpler so we have time to see the pose. It can still be improved but good job

#72

No please don’t make the deadline sooner. I haven’t even completed a playblast yet. Too many hours in my job. :frowning:

#73

lol, don’t worry. I wasn’t serious

#74

Pheew, thank you.

#75

First Pass

Key poses + settle at the end. I’ll spend more time refining the poses later.

#76

Mandeep- I like your poses. I think the pose for the sigh is too strong, i would repose it with less movement.

AuloLicinio- Good animation! Good idea, good poses, good timing, = good animation.

SirRon- The poses look good. When your animating put alot of weight on his shoulders.

#77

Well, thanks guys for your critics… it´s gonna help a lot!

As I said, Time over here is very small, so I´m not sure if a would be able to get back to that scene.

SirRon: Yeah! … I guess the line is to short, hehe … about what you said, if you ask me if I liked the animation, I´ll probably answer. “Oh! not really!” hehe. But… maybe I´ll slow down that arm, it´s bothering me too. About your animation… I liked the poses and how you contrasted the line of action. keep up the work!

dudeacle: Thank´s, I´m glad you liked it!

Mandeep: I agree with dudeacle … that pose is really to strong! I guess that pose is for the breath in part… try to smooth it out a little… I think that in this part of the audio… the character is looking into himself… Well I´m not sure if what I said is beeing easy to understand! Sorry for the poor english. hehe

CuneytGuclu: It´s looking fine… but the lypsnc is out of time, i think you can play around with the open and close of the mouth… it looks a little static.

#78

Ok, tried adding some ‘weight’ to the shoulders and some other stuff.

Here’s a cool trick I read somewhere about getting silhouettes in Maya. On the panel go to ‘Lighting>Use No Lights’ or ‘Lighting>Use Selected Lights’ and have nothing selected. And you get something like this:

I had to hide the background geometry otherwise that would’ve been black too. I found that I had a bad pose for the left hand this way so I fixed that.

#79

hey guys here is 2nd pass almost finished with this

Nice trick. I gotta figure out how to do that in C4D. Excellent way to keep track of the silhouettes.
