animating flowing blood in C4

#1

Hi!

I’m using Combustion 4 as a compositing softare and for one of my projects I have to add something like flowing blood to existing video footage (an independent film project). Is there a good way to do such effect without extensive modeling and animating in 3d software?

The only way I see it, is to use something like RealFlow to animate blood as a liquid, import it into 3dsmax and after that compose it with existing footage in C4. But it sounds a bit complicated to do (having in mind that I will have to adjust the plane on which the blood flows to correspond to the earth surface under the dead body in the footage).

Any advices will be highly appreciated.

Actually, I was going to suggest Realflow as it is a totally kick ass program. What you COULD do, is import the geometry that’s going to be used into Realflow, then use it to do the blood, then export the blood mesh into 3Ds Max, and render, no compositing needed.

I will have to use C4 (or AE though I prefer C4) to compose/combine the rendered material with the footage of a “dead” person I have.
This movie has just three or four scenes where I’m creating SFX, anything else is just a minDV footage edited in Premiere.

But it’s not a problem. I was just hoping that there is a less complicated way to create realistic looking blood.

you could also paint the blood - depending on how close-up the effect has to be it could work well. another option would be to shoot some live action with a colored fluid and comp it into your scene. or maybe play around with clothsim inside max and apply animated stretching to your cloth surface.

Here is a technique that works depending on the footage you need the blood to flow on. Take a white board and get some stage blood. Light the board to match the scene. Now drip the stage blood onto the board so that it runs down the board. Take this blood plate that you just filmed and luma key it onto the dead body. You will need to try to match the angle and such but it will work. I know I’ve done it.
