Thanks for the tutorial!

I was only wondering how common is it to model a railtrack in Layout? How can this method be applied to premodeled tracks (no bones)?

Dynamics can work too, but would be harder to set up for a “rollercoaster” as of gravity, it would mean you would have to base the simulation almost a 100% on how the setup is done in real life. It’d take you way longer, but can make some cool effects.

…Cool to see the test this guy pulled off,

Very Cool!

Morphing through bonechains is a beautiful, easy way of creating quite complex motions. Really love this technique!

You could bring the premodeled track into Modeler and create a 2-point polychain that is aligned with the track, then turn the 2-point poly chain into a skelegonchain. Move the skelegons into the traintrack layer. Bring the object back into Layout and convert the skelegons into bones. This may distort the railtrack, so select all bones and turn them off and then hit ‘r’ to rest them (so they don’t distort the railtrack).

In Modeler, create your stand in train (same as in Protons video) and create a morph of it traveling. Bring that model into Layout and morph it through the bones of the railtrack. Now you should be able to bring in your real train and have them following the stand-in train using FX HardLink.

I have not tested this, so I may have missed some steps. This is all from top of my head.
