I just want to hold down alt (like in photoshop) and animate the corners of an image. I really dont want to go through hacking a corner pin track to do this. Can someone please help me? I feel very ignorant right now.

I don’t follow. This is just how AE works. Whether native distortion transforms will be added at some point is anybody’s guess, in the meantime simply get used to it.

Aye, Corner pin is a neccessary evil. If you want it easy to edit you can always bind the control points to null objects and move those around, but it won’t get any simpler.

have you tried Effect -> Distort-> Corner Pin ?
no need for a corner pin track to do what youre asking, if i understand correctly… ?
