animate vertex normals?

#1

Hi,

I am using the “Vertex normal edit tool” to change certain normals on a low poly mesh to achieve an artistic non realistic result.
I would need to animate the normals over time, but I Could not find a way to do this in maya, so I thought I’ll ask if someone has a workaround or knows of a script that can do this.

cheers,
Oz.

there is a way with soup nodes with the “point” node, but it’s not that straight forward.
Basically the normals are aimed to the position of the locator, then you would just animate the locator.

That is actually exactly what I need, the normals pointing at a locator… unfortunately I see those nodes are not free :frowning:
the project I work on has a really tight budget… so I guess I’ll give writing a MEL expression a go… hehe

Thanks for the tip !

you can still find the free plugin on maya 2017.
also the price is just 20$ for 1 month if you really need it.

I am on maya 2017, how can I find the free version?
I work in a large co-operate, the bureaucracy I need to go through to get approval for this will probably exceed the deadline of the project…
I’ll try playing with the trail version this weekend, I might buy it with my own money if I’ll be able to work it out with those nodes
I have a lot of experience with softimage ICE, but almost none with maya’s node, so it will be a challenge…
