André Biral Sketchbook

#1

Hi there folks!

My name is André Biral, I have decided to study art abroad. I will have 2 years to prepare a portfolio and get ready to take a course.

I found this forum a perfect opportunity to get some criticism and evolve as an 3d artist. So please, if you have anything to say about my work, feel free. It’s very important for me, whether it’s composition, anatomy, design, or anything really.

I will open this thread with a model I’ve been working on. It’s a Conan model that I’ve started 6 days ago. There’s still a lot of work to do, right now I’m focusing especially on the upper legs, I am trying to figure out how the knee and muscle works when bent, right now looks weird. Many things are just placeholders.

If you have time and want to download the ZTool, the file is avaible here.

Hi again!
This one was inspired on a monster call Barrow Knight I found on “HACKLOPEDIA of BEASTS” of HACKMASTER
It’s just the beginning of the project, but I’ve already learnt a lot trying to build hard surface shapes , next step will probably be coming up with a good concept for the lower armor.
If anybody has any suggestions or criticisms, that will help me a lot.
Thank you everyone.

Hey man, welcome to the Forum!

The biggest thing I see with your conan sculpt is, that it is quite ecorche ish, like he has no skin.
You should probably try and blend the shapes of the muscles a bit more together, especially the left arm is suffering from this, but it might also just be that it is Just very wip. also the position of the hans on the sword seems a bit funky, but they also look very low res at the moment. otherwise great work!

That ornamention on your armored sculpt is crazy cool though, it has so much finesse!

Hey JeffHH, tank you very much for reply.

I started this Conan as an excuse to study anatomy, You are right, I leave it very ecorche ish, probably because I was trying to make sure not to add or remove a muscle that should be there. I will definitely pay attention to this issue. About the hand I completely agree, it’s very in the beginning, but if I don’t get a good expression in the beginning, it don’t think it’s worth the work to polish it.

For the Armor I used Marcelo Souza’s work as inspiration, this one here,

I worked on Substance Designer to create those forms, then apply the displacement map, I was trying to come up with the best way to work ornaments, I not sure, but for now I believe that it’s best to have something more procedural as long as I don’t have a specific reference.

Thank you very much for spending some time to help me, I really appreciate it. :grinning:

Hi everyone, long time no see!

I’ve been through some changes in my life so I couldn’t post for a long time.
This is my last scketch based upon Lilith from Diablo 4.

I hope to continue posting now and hear criticisms so I can get better in my sculpture.

Thanks everyone!
