Ok, the first thing that seems you’ve gotten wrong is starting to work in high subdivision level at the very start without getting all possible details from previous levels. You should go work gradually from the first one, sculpting the porportions and big masses and the going further with more and more details. I recommend checking out this dvd. Will surely come usefull to you if it’s sculpting you want to learn. But remember that it’s only you that can get you better, so practise and practise a lot.
Welcome to the forum and good luck on your journey.
Hi Sivan!! congratulations on gettin your thread up!! welcome to the club!!
I agree with Razz that you need to work from low-res and gradually work up the subdivisions. another thing: are you working from a reference image?.. i would recommend you to do some master copies or copies from live models. You can get reference material from one of the OFDW threads. http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=199
About your model… it is a fine start… but you need to give it some muscle definition… I have made a paint-over of one of your images. hope it helps… the face needs work too, but I will get into that later.

Hi Razz,
Thanks for your valuable comments. From now on i will try out to figure maximum detail from the lower sub division itself. As this is a quick modeling practice that i tried for the first time even modelling after a such long time I thing i have forgotten almost all the rules that my guru thought me
Hi anand cheta…
Thanks for dropping into my thread. I will definetly start working with the masters copy. Hope i didnt disappointed you by showing up a crap model. For sure I will come up with lot of work ASAP, to imporve my skill sets and to learn more… I will go through the link that you have send me. I am not able to view the corrected image that you have send across can you share that image with photobuket
Thankyou for your guidance like all the time.

Um you can do this without building up each individual layer. Its a masking technique which you don’t need to build up all of your layers. This way you can knock out the main forms rather quickly. Smoothing works much better at lower levels, but its also more destructive to structure. Check out the video from Ceasar Dacol. Sculpting with mask on the left hand side. You might want to watch all of the videos as well. Don’t limit yourself to just one tool with zbrush, taking your time to learn the tools, will speed up workflow a lot.

Welcome, silvan!
There are a lot of great folks around here to give you 3D advice, so definitely listen to them.
I also really believe strongly that practicing your 2D skills will help your 3D skills, since it’s all about seeing and analyzing form. Drawing will show immediately where your weaknesses are, and it’s much easier and less time consuming to address problems in 2D first before tackling 3D. I would encourage you to do 2D studies as well as 3D studies - a great way to practice is to do master copies in 2D. Check out the Open Figure Drawing Workshops in the Tutorials Forum, as well as the Anatomy Lesson Series Workshops. I think you will find a lot of great inspiration there as well as a direction in which to go in terms of practicing figurative art.

Thanks Gord-MacDonald,

Hi Siva… I am uploading the same image as attachment as your computer is not able to access imageshack.
Hi anand cheta…
Thanks a ton for the image. Totally confused, when i started working on a masters copy, how to see the volume of muscle set in my workscape some i see but cant get that volume when i am working. I know the solution is simple like work work work. I feel like need pratices sessions for identifying volume. Is there any sort of exersices for the same Please advice.
Like always…

Sivan
Hi Sivan - haven’t seen your thread before
Nice to see you’re tackling 3d - and starting with zbrush too which is not easy… I agree with Rebeccak - 2d will help immensly - especially anatomy studies.
as for your model - what anand said applies very much to the body… As to the face - look at the eyes as spheres because yours are very flat now. The eyelid is wrapped around half a sphere! Also the beard covers the chin rather than growing out of his lips… Look at your model from the side and you’ll find that the underside of the chin is rising very high up, which would be quite impossible
personally I’d suggest trying plain 3d software first rather than zbrush and doing simple models just to get the proportions right, using image planes or reference rotoscope and then, if you wish to build up detailed wrinkles and stuff, going for zbrush!
also check out the Zac Petroc dvd from the Gnomon Workshop, if you get the chance - it’s very much worth it!
Keep going!![]()
