Anatomy Thread of razz - 2D/3D

#1021

Staticpen, hey, I always check for updates in your thread. And no, that’s mudbox. Got used to it. And after seeing new version’s features I’m not going to leave it!

Trying to texture. Model isn’t mine. Took it from HERE. Screen capture from viewport. Not finished.

#1022

Oooh, I like that texture work. Looks like a weapon-ish hammer you’d find in an FPS, haha. I can just see someone picking that up and bashing aliens in the head with it, haha. Nice work, dude.

Hey Razz, good stuff as usual. Incredible pics from your trip. Those are the type of shots that leave me wanting to do some terrain work – the desire passes quickly, but they’re remarkable enough to trigger the impulse!

Your concept sketches are very crisp and have that ‘easy to translate into 3d’ quality that they should. It’ll be interesting to watch your work develop in that area. Lots of people try it, but so many miss that critical functionality.

Texture: A great tip I took from someone on Polycount recently was to really focus on your specular map when working on metal. Only the most gross discolurations will really show up in the diffuse (rust, major scratches, etc) and the vast majority of the detail will come through in the spec. Now you have plenty of those very big discolourations in your hammer (rust, heavy scratching, etc), but you willing likely get a more clear diffrentation between handle and head with a well crafted specular map.

Just starting to study this stuff myself. Very interesting topic and it really forces you to think through how materials work etc.

Thanks for the comments in my thread, always nice to have a talented hand such as yourself comment on progress

Hi Razz

Good to see you back, and great too to see those amazing pics from your trip!
I love the mountain one, could see that turn into a really interesting environment study

Congrats too on getting in the IFX article!

take care and
cheers
a.

Jason, haha, that would be fun. Just need to work on it a little bit more.

Kary, noted. Thanks for the useful advice. I’ll see what I can do. I’m “green” in this area, but it interests me a lot. It’s fun!

Annette, thanks! I was thinking of doing some studies from those photos but right now I believe I should create something from my head, been doing a lot of studies, don’t want to get too dependant on seeing what to draw instead of having it in my head. You get the idea

Speaking of studies, here’s one more. After Carlos Huante. I bought his book “Mas Creaturas”, great stuff! Thinking of continuing this study and painting it.

And on to doing something from imagination!

#1026

Nice one Razz
Thanks for the help in my own sb
Tried the glow brush in Painter… interesting effect I must say.
Will for sure come in handy!

#1027

Great stuff in here! I’m trying to get some work done but I cant stop going through it :stuck_out_tongue:

For that hammer there, the texture is looking good  If you’re just going to be using a diffuse map you should work on defining the lighting more. If it’s going to have a normal map then it should be sweet as is! But you most likely already knew that.

#1028

Hey Razz !!

That character is just awesome, looks like medusa inspired.
Carlos Huante is a great artist, lots of character studies he has.

Can’t wait to see the colored version and a zbrush version will be my dream. :stuck_out_tongue:

#1029

wow razz … i swear … it like not visiting your sketchbook in ages

i like the old woman concept … very amazing

take look at my sketchbook if you can

my best regards 2 u

#1030

Hello! Lot’s of great stuff here, really nice work. It’s also good to see another younger artist around.

#1031

Johan, thanks mate. Glad I could be of any help. Glow brush really is magical. Ryan Church uses this brush a lot, you can see that in his work (besides that it’s written in his website). And damn I love his work!

Retardedmonkey, thanks. I will be using a normal map, so no need to paint the light in the texture. I’ve only seen that being done only once actually, but that was enough for me to know about it, hehe.

Deepam, thank you! Ha, I think the colored version will be enough of this medusa for me. It’s so not easy to do this study, Carlos Huante is too good!

MIX3XIM, thanks man.

Xtopher, hey, I didn’t think you were that young. Must push harder with my artwork…Truly great having you around.

Drew this guy to see if the study did before helped.

And I want to make him in 3d!

#1032

Hi,
great concepts.
Looking forward to see the progress.

#1033

That looks like a medusa in ur imagination… nice concept

The Head of that man is good! need to work on his neck muscles…Face looks goooood :buttrock:
want to see the final look

#1034

Nice render! He looks pretty similar to the reference, too, which is pretty neat.

#1035

Sycen, thanks. Hopefully will work on it more soon.

Wickedsamara, thank you. Well, it’s a long way until it’s done, so it’ll get better

Staticpen, hey mate, thanks! Funny thing though, I modeled the head before I drew the concept, haha.

Will call this one finished.

And what started as a self portrait ended up…I don’t know.

#1036

Yeah with the normal on it it looks sweet. No need to waste time painting lighting on it then :stuck_out_tongue:

That last painting is amazing, really love the style.

#1037

Good job on the nose eye sockets, mate.

#1038

Thanks Retardedmonkey and Staticpen! Glad you like the stuff. Feel free to unleash the crits also!

The 3d guy continued. Crits are more than welcome!

And a study after Jelmer Boskma. Tried being very free with my strokes, inspiration came from Zhuzhu. Painted it and then compared with Zhuzhu’s study of the original piece. Understood that this is not sketchy at all!

#1039

That model is looking gorgeous! Wonderful work, Razz. But at the permission of crits, may I suggest! - the forearms look a little short to me, but not at all by much.
And that bird thing looks pretty legit, haha. Loose brush techniques are so fun.

#1040

Staticpen, thank you mate! I’ll have to check all the proportions with the full body visible. Should make it look a lot better. So thanks for mentioning the forearms, that way I’ll check everything! The birdie was fun. And fast.

New speedie. I do have a lot of stuff started, don’t I?
