Anatomy Thread of razz - 2D/3D

#981

Hey sport, really liking those last characters, very cool!

#982

ShellShocked, thanks, glad you liked it. And damn, I’d kill myself if I haven’t improved in all that time!

Markey, hey! Good to see you here. Actualy, this is my main thread, with more often updates and stuff. Nice to know you’re creating a sketchbook here also, you’ll love it here!

Staticpen, thank you! Some really nice linework in that guy’s drawings. I think I’ve seen his work somewhere, look veeery familiar, might be CA. I can sure learn some stuff from his work. Thanks for the link.

Selphoo, thank you! It’s funny, I was always against linework when doing a digital piece, but now I love it!

Rebecca, thanks! I’m trying, I’m trying  Still a looong road…

So, after some imaginational sketching I got angry at how crappy they turn out so decided to do some studies. After Burne Hogarth.

Oh, I did try to create a robot of my own, but no luck. Next time!

#983

Sooo, I want to create a decent looking portfolio now and this is the very start of the first piece. Let’s hope it’ll work out…

#984

I love it!
I am a sucker for the big brush.
Lines, movement, stance,… very good ideed.

Keep it a going:D

Cheerio Chris

#985

nice studies razz, but keep pushing the figure in the last one, try and think more carfully about anatomy and apply it to your work.

#986

go go razz :buttrock:

#987

Aw man, great job on the Hogarth action! Those two on the bottom right look like they were actually drawn by the man himself. @__@
Portfolio, huh? Looking to get a job in the art world?

#988

awesome stuff as always razz - sorry I’ve neglected to visit earlier  Like the wrench btw LOL - I must model one now and keep procrastinating

#989

Hey Razz!! awesome stuff!! Those Hogarth studies look great!! …like to see some more of that! …and good start on that last image!!

#990

Kanga, hey, thanks. I’ll continue on  Big brush does rule!

Markey, thanks. Oh, this one will be all about anatomy. A bit skewed to make it less human, but yeah, still anatomy.

Miyamoto, thanks man

Staticpen, thank you. Nah, not looking for a job. I might just try to apply to ConceptArt.org Atelier if it’ll be possible and then I would need some finished pieces, so that’s what I’m doing. I only need to find some info about it…Still a lot of things are unclear, pretty lost where to study after school. The academy in Florence where I was thinking to go is starting to look too freakin’ expensive. So, yeah, shit.

Magdalena, thanks. Hey, no worries. Just don’t stop posting at your thread! Happy now that you’ve updated

Anand, aah, the frontpage man! I’ll see what I can do about more of those, hehe, got to finish my Frazetta study. Thanks for stopping by, bro!

A tiny bit more on this guy…

…and a speedie environment

#991

Great start on the portfolio piece razz.
On a first impression, his head seems a bit small. But perhaps it is actually the torso being a bit longish. This also makes his upper arm look a bit short. Maybe it’s intended to deviate from the ideal proportions… in that case just ignore this
If you want to have the proportions more universal, I think it would be best to shorten the area between the navel and the nipples.

#992

Will this portfolio be all images from imagination or studies too? Anand has studies for example, or you think a portfolio should be only images - characters, envs, weapons and what not from imagination? Will you use references for colors for skin or metal or what not?

There you go , some stupid questions but please answer it i really am interested how you 2d guys work and think about these stuff.

Keep the tornado going

#993

Hi there Razz

I like the portfolio piece you are working on - the way he’s sort of emerging
out of the dark - look forward to seeing him develop  I’m sure you’ll find
an avenue to continue your art in, a portfolio is a great step

oh and I’m so sorry about the mix-up with Bumskee - I misread and thought you’d
used one of his as a ref  Just makes your finished and inspired/imagination
piece even better

cheers
a.

#994

good start to a portfolio, razz. I was looking into the conceptart atelier too, but unfortunately I’m past the point in my life where it’s easy to make a big career/life change like that.

I remember they wanted to see some environment type stuff, so it’s great you’ve been working on those - you’ve got a lot of other strong work too, I think you’ll have a great shot at it.

the new guy you’re working on looks cool, nice loose feel so far, just watch the anatomy of the muscles in his torso, I’m kind of confused between what’s what in that side view.

Best of luck and let me know how this all progresses! Very curious about the program, and of course cheering for you to get in!

Johan, thanks for the crits. I revised the porportions, made some changes and I think it looks better now. I do want a little deviation, but not too much. Your crit made me check and yeah, that was too much. I guess I was too free when drawing this. Again thank you, mate!

Miyamoto, that’s the thing, I’m a 2d guy, and Anand is a 3d guy. I have a good friend who works as 3d artist, and what he does is just turn 2d concepts into 3d, as accurately as possible. There’s no need to think of an idea, it’s already there. And the one who thought of that idea was a 2d guy, so it’s him who needs to use his imagination. You get the idea? I don’t think a 2d artist can afford to be a copy machine, he just wouldn’t have anything to offer to a client. So yeah, I’ll try to make my porftolio filled with imaginational paintings. References are good also, just like you said, for metal or skin. I’ll probably gather some when I’ll get lost. Keeps one from guessing how a thing should look. Besides, references aren’t for copying, they’re to aim you in the right direction, in my opinion.
Hope this helps. I’m not too confident talking about this stuff, 'cause I really have very little experience. Thanks for stopping by!

Annette, thanks! A portfolio is a huge step for me. Applying what I’ve learned from all the studies I’ve done. Really fun actualy, I haven’t done much imaginational work and it’s interesting now to see what I’m capable of doing.

Ceruleanvii, thank you. I will actualy only apply for next year, if I’ll apply that is. I’m pretty far from where it is located. The stuff I’ve done from imagination since now are just speedpaints, so I’ll be creating whole new bunch of paintings because I need finished work. It’ll be different. Environments, tech stuff, creatures, characters. A long way to go!

Update. I was thinking about what to do with the background. Any suggestions? Don’t know whether to paint some kind of a scene there or just some randomness.

And something non organic for a change

Hey Razz!
Great going, buddy! the guns look really cool!.. you have great design sense!… and about the guy with the stick… you know what?.. I looked at the first sketch and the last one side by side, and I like first one better…
I thought it was because I like broad strokes, but its not only that… I think the first one has better lighting… like, you can see at once where the light is coming from, and there are shadows in the right places, etc… This one has more detail, but you have sort of evened out the light and shade, so there is less contrast… Hope you are getting my point.

#997

Chesus, those guns are amazing !!! :buttrock:

You saw Toro’s video ? if not do it, but again, yours are better anyways. hahaha

  1. These are completely from mind?

  2. Have you studied guns before and where from?

  3. How do you take care of straight lines? You hold shift or something? You use the shapes like circles and stuff?

Take care buddy :applause:

#998

Anand, I see…That might be just the way I paint. I do it like this and then I paint the light so really no worries, what was in the first sketch will be in the end. I’m not going to leave it unlit. Shadows and clear lightsource will come. You know, darks first, midtones second and lights last. This update lacks the last one, hehe. But yeah, it would’ve been better if I could’ve kept what I had in the starting sketch through all the stages of painting. A good thing for me to keep in my mind next time I sit to paint. Big thanks, brother!

Miyamoto, you mean Coro, right? Yeah you do. I’ll have my own credit card tomorrow (been using my brothers since now) so I’ll consider buying some videos from MB. So far I’ve bought and watched Andrew Jones’ Fine Art and Jason Chans’ Quick Sketch, both very good. Yeah, guns are from mind and no I haven’t studied any. Though I’ve seen some concept art from various games, so that was like an inspiration. Straight lines, yeah, just holding shift or the good old free-hand. I use a round brush for these, also an airbrush. Thank you for the interest. You really are craving knowledge

Here’s how I’ve done each of them:

#999

Cool guns, man. But yeah, about the dude. I don’t know what to say about a background quite yet, but I do notice that the highlight value on the figure is the same as the big mass behind him. Highlights wont pop if there’s that much of the same value right behind them. I forget where the link is, but a lighting article said that you should define your form with mids and shadows and try to use the highlight value scarcely.
But I dunno, I’m really digging his forearm at the moment, heheheh. Keep pushing it.

#1000

Oh!! cool, then!

Great to see your gun making process!!:bounce:
