Anatomy Thread of razz - 2D/3D

#961

Just finished. Inspired by Bumskee.

#962

hey razz!

i love that things too- wonderfull brush-strokes on last piece’s!

hope u’re well - cheers!

#963

Selphoo, thanks mate!

I modeled a pipe wrench, haha.

#964

Hahaha. Bumskee has been inspiring me quite a bit these days, too. Great painting! I actually did a couple environments form life the other day. Tough stuff sometimes!
The bald dude you did is pretty legit, too. Old bald guys are the best.

#965

Staticpen, big thanks! I find it more fun to do environments from imagination. Just because I feel it’s what I need to learn more. And yeah, no jungle with waterfalls nearby.
I’ll stop by your thread. I believe I have a few names of some very great artists who might also be inspiring to you. Oh, btw, old bald guys do rule

A study after Feng Zhu. It’s quite off if you compare it with the original, but that’s not what I’m concerned about. It’s all about freehand linework and mechanical stuff here.

#966

nice copy - really like that one by feng zhu… he’s really awesome with mechanical idea’s

#967

Ah, your visit is always welcome, man. Stop by any time any drop names! I’ve got a list full of artists I find inspiring, and the more the merrier! I’ll go ahead and update right now so you’ll have something new to see during your stay.

Your technical drawing is really cool, man. I’ve always liked really crazy, small details. I think that’s where my love for post-apocalyptic cities comes from. That and Akira. But that’s besides the point! Great drawing, man. I’d love to see you apply all those little squares and lines to a crazy landscape. I think you could pull it off!

#968

Hey razz!

great updates again as usual!

really like your enviro studies… also the last mechanical looks nice… would be an interesting exercise to create a few variations based on this one from imagination now

#969

Selphoo, he sure is. That means he’s someone to learn from

Staticpen, I love those small details also. But I find them hard to do from imagination. I mean, I’m not familiar with mechanical stuff at all, so that’s why the study. It’s hard to make it believable.

Johan, I’m sketching some robots on paper and hoping to transfer them into digital and apply what I’ve learned from studying Feng’s piece. So yeah, expect to see some of those from imagination, unless of course they’ll turn out crappy

Thank you guys for stopping by. I appreciate you take the time to do so.

Finished study. After Feng Zhu.

#970

Really like that last environment piece, very nice depth/atmosphere. I like that sketchy head study too - you’re doing some great work!

#971

Nice updates Razz  and interesting to see you trying different things.
Mechanical with personality and character - nice  I do like the environment
study you did after Bumskee, it has a lovely feel to it!

cheers and take care
a.

#972

HEY …RAZZZZ…

Nice updates…

Really like the wrench…I was thinking it would be great to see that metal technique used on it, carried over into your latest machine character, along with some of that metal armor technique that you used on your warrior…would really add to the realism of that latest machine character that you just posted, and take it to a higher level, I think.
On your waterfall scene, … some reflexed colors in the small human figure…MINIMAL LIGHT… would take it out of the flat state of a silhouette, and would make it go with the rest of the painting better…DYNAMIC LIGHT AND SHADE by BURNE HOGARTH…A GREAT book…and for sure one that you should add to your personal library, if you haven’t already that is…Every kind of lighting and shadeing that there is, is contained in that book, and the distinct princables that apply to each of them, plus his own demontrations of those princables…best book on the subject of lighting and shadeing and the pricables that apply, that I know of…
ANYWAY …ALWAYS A PLEASURE SEEING YOUR WORKS, AND GREAT PROGRESS…
TAKE CARE
Glenn

Wow razz great stuff

  1. What things would you separate as Feng Zhu’s style? For example one is that he leaves dots at the start and end of lines and he makes random dots all over the place, but still manages to keep them in harmony.

  2. How did you draw the sketch? What tablet you use?

Take care

#974

Nice, man. Sweet job on the warm light coming from underneath the main uh… head of the robot thing?

#975

So yeah, expect to see some of those from imagination, unless of course they’ll turn out crappy

Heh thanks to you I’ve been spending over an hour downloading his work for reference and studying :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, like with all these masters… they all make it seem so easy huh.
But in reality skill is only gained by practice (you know that better than I do) so I’ll try to come up with some of my own variations/spinoffs of it by the end of the weekend. Need to blow the dust off my tablet anyway and with school year ending after next week, I’ll have more time to do digital.

#976

Ceruleanvii, thanks. I’m just getting a little more comfortable with painting from imagination. It goes easier when I have a clear idea in my head as with those two. Need to push on still.

Annette, thank you. Yeah, well I thought I shouldn’t just draw and paint humans only, there are lots of other stuff! Even if it’s the most fun for me to paint something that has bones and muscles, I love different stuff also. And that environment isn’t after Bumskee. Just kind of my interpretation of his piece, done after taking a look at it but from my mind. Somewhat between a study after someone and an imaginational painting, haha.

Glenn, huge thanks! You’re always here with some great advice which I appreciate a lot. I guess then it would be money well spent if I bought this book you’re talking about and also his Dynamic Anatomy.
I don’t think I’ll be pushing this robot thingie any more, as I’ve learned what I wanted from it and because now it’s at the same level of finish as the original. Still going to paint a few of my own, so we’ll see  Thanks again!

Miyamoto, thanks. Visible, very well done freehand linework, some texture, glow brush. That’s him. It’s like his linework shows that it’s him. Just like Bumskee’s linework shows that it’s him. There’s a certain feel to it. Haven’t really studied his style, because it’s not what I aimed for. It’s the best to find your own style, I think and that tells me I should do that, haha.
Firstly, I did a very very fast sketch just for placement and then on the other layer I started the clean linework as it’s not that hard when you see what you draw in front of your eyes. Finished with that, created a layer below and did the usual painting stuff. Really nothing to it, the linework was the main thing which gives all the look to the piece. I use Wacom Intuos 3 A4 Oversize.

Staticpen, haha, thanks mate. Now I must do something like that from my head! That will be fun! Or frustrating if it won’t work out…

Johan, ha, they do make it seem to easy. Really looking forward to seeing your digital stuff! Haven’t seen any of that in a while. Just do a study and then come up with something of your own. I’ll be watching, be sure of that

                                           Something from my head..

                                             ..and after Bumskee

Hey, I’ve been lurking around the forums for a while and I decided to check out your sketch book and I wanted to say that your art is really amazing and awesome, you’ve also improved a lot since the first page which really influences me to always try harder.

#978

its markey2d from concept art.org good to see ur kicking ass here too, your has really progressed man, ur kind of convincing me to start a sketchbook here, i need to get more serious man.

anyway keep it up your doing great.

#979

Nice sketches, man. I like your line work. It’s loose and free without being really sketchy or using multiple lines to state one angle or curve.

I’m not actually writing this with a connection so I can’t be sure, but I’m pretty certain this is the guy I’m thinking of… If it is the right link, the guy has loads of scanned pen sketches in there. I really dig his line work. Lots of tone and texture with just a pen. On the topic of line, I thought I’d throw that in there.

#980

yeah razz!

really fine line-work on the last pieces- keep it pushin’ ! peace!
