Anatomy Thread of razz - 2D/3D

#941

Annette, thank you! I’m really glad to have made it from the first try. I was nervous too, haha, but not for too long. Got calm once I got out to drive in the city after all those parking exercises.
I have a few more hands one, so an update should come soon.

Calan, thanks! It’s great that you liked it. Feels good when the work I’m doing doesn’t just help me but others too in some way.

A 3d head! Not finished yet. I used Jason Statham as reference but didn’t go for his portrait here, so don’t look for similarity. I plan to finish this one 'till the very end, but I had such plans before and it didn’t work out…

#942

A hand! Not finished yet. I still need to do some fancy painterly stuff. Photo-refed.

#943

Learning some stroke economy. After Zhuzhu.

EDIT: Thanks Kanga. Corrected a little bit.

#944

Wow that’s great! I like the strong approach alot.
Did you flip it in the verticle to see if stands up. I know its a sketch but the eyes seem a little out.

Very nice stuff, being greedy I would like to see more of this:)
Cheerio Chris

#945

Kanga, thanks! Took your advice as you see. I always forget to flip the image to see if it’s correct when doing a speedpaint. Seems that I need more hours to get to that.

Finished I guess. Done enough for what I wanted.

#946

Woot, that makes a difference!
Although I really like the drawings and other things you have posted I really think the big brush suits you. It feels like a power thing if that makes sense. Something I need to practice.

Nice man:)
Cheerio Chris

#947

Kanga, thanks! I always try to use the biggest brush possible. But I do change the size of the brush a lot when I paint digitally as it’s so easy and fast with the touchstrip on my wacom.

Inspired by Dan Milligan. Done from imagination.

I’m really not working on that contest piece, am I…

#948

wow man amazing stuff

How long did the hand took you ? And you did that without grid , the initial proportions stuff ?

#949

Miyamoto, thanks. It’s hard to tell how long it took me. I guess around 3 hours, but I don’t know how close is that. No grids no nothing. Went straight for the silhouette and then the usual stuff, from dark to light.

Piece for the contest. Not really happy about it, but oh well…practise practise practise

#950

Hey bud,

Nice stuff as usual. There’s something a bit stiff in the previous pose but I like your exploration and willingness to take risks - not to mention your great dedication. Sorry I haven’t been around posting much, my computer’s in the shop and I’m about to go crazy without the internets  - keep up the great work.

#951

wow buddy you start to scare me

Great great work, again my stupid questions

  1. How long did this took you and did you use reference for skin colors or pose or metal or whatever ?

  2. and do you do values first and then go with color or you start everything with color right away ,over the sketch ?

#952

Thank you, Rebecca. No need to be sorry. We’re all busy here

Miyamoto, hey, thanks. I only used references for the reflections on the shoulder armor, besides that it’s all from my head. It’s hard to tell how long it took. It was done in several sittings and I haven’t watched the time. Started this one straight in color.
Again just learning to show more with less.

After Hethe Srodawa. Again just learning to show more with doing less, not copying blindly.

Will do some of my own on the next update.

Cheers everyone

HEY …RAZZZZ…

GREAT job on that hand study…
On the standing warrior…The hand holding the sword…maybe his thumb and the lighting on it should be the dominent factor there…with the fingers secondary and in the shadows…it’s a little hard to read it the way it is decribed now…I really like the lighting and colors that you went with…and the contrast of sharpness for the warrior, and atmospheric for the rest…NICCCEEE…
That last waterfall scene came out nice also…You might give more atmosphere on the top of the painting,… above the birds and the top of the falls…will throw it further back in space, and will prevent the viewer from being drawn out of the composition along that top edge of the painting…maybe the forground could be a little darker also…will distingush it more from the middle ground, which is the focus point.
ANYWAY,…ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO SEE YOUR WORKS AND GREAT PROGRESS…
TAKE CARE
Glenn

#954

Glenn, thank you! The warrior painting does have a lot of flaws, but I’m ok with those now. Learned loads of stuff by painting it and I can still see mistakes, so that means I can do much better next time, hehe.
Thanks for the crit on the study also. I really wasn’t paying attention to stuff like that when I painted it. But I guess it’s sometimes fun not to think of anything when painting, especially when it’s a speedpaint like that one.
Always a pleasure to have you here, Glenn. Helpful crits and suggestions. I appreciate it.

Something I did to see what I learned from the previous study. From imagination and memory. Not there yet.
Environments are fun. I’ll be doing much more for sure.

Two weeks until summer holidays, I can’t wait! Oh, the free time…I want to paint like a maniac.

#955

I was wondering who you are and what you do after you drooped by my “little” anatomy thread…
You are such an artist !
One thing can be said. Studyind would help a lot for the artist to let his art be understood…
We can see during these years on your thread that your studies helped you to express yourself in your personnal work. A great thing to learn…
As you said many times, " study" !

Cheers Razz !

#956

oh maaaan:bounce::applause:

wonderfull works in here- really like them a lot, especially 2d pieces!

i see that you’re copying zhuzhu- that’s one of my favorite artist here!
and now you became one of them too

cheers!

#957

Hey Razz! wassup? Great stuff latey, mate! keep rocking!:scream:

#958

Hey razz, seems like you had some fun with concept drawings lately  .
Looks nice man, keep them coming !

#959

Aw, man. It’s been too long since I’ve visited here. Apologies!

The environment stuff is looking pretty rad, man. Definitely keep going with that. I noticed that environment paintings by concept artists totally enthrall me, and yet I never try them myself. I think you’ve inspired me to give it a go.

As for the dude with the sword, nice job, man. The only thing that gets me is that it looks like his weight, or center of balance is somewhere… weird. Like too far forward or something. But that’s just me being picky. Nice image, sir.

#960

Gpepper, hey, thanks. Glad you liked what you saw. Be careful with all the studying, it’s not very good to get too dependant on seeing what to draw/paint in front of you. Of course, studies help a lot, but one won’t learn to paint from imagination if he doesn’t do that. Hope you get the idea  Cheers

Selphoo, wow, thank you! Just doing what I love doing the most and hopefully pushing forward.

Anand, thanks mate! Why no updates from yourself, eh? Tell me you’re working on something big

Collings, yeah, it’s fun. Need to push my skills waaaay up! Thanks for dropping by mate

Staticpen, thank you. Definitely give it a go! Loads of freedom do those these kind of environments. Lots and lots of fun. You’re not being picky about the char here, he really is out of balance. And lots of other stuff is wrong with him. But I learned my lesson and that’s all that matters! By the way, doing great stuff yourself!
