Anatomy Thread of raptor|3D

#61

Hi Rebecca,
Thank you very much for your kind reply. Haven´t been here for a while. Have been learning maya a lot and doing quick sketches and opposing curves that I don´t thing are worth to show here but I´ll come up with something better soon.

Well, I´ve also finished my landscape oil painting. In case you don´t mind I´ll upload it here as soon as it will be photographed (I don´t have digital camera so it will take some time to throw it in the computer).

P.S.: Wouldn´t you mind if I copy my last drawing to the “Torso” section?

Cheers

raptor|3D,

Great to see you back! Absolutely feel free to post your landscape here. Also, feel free to copy your torso painting to the other thread, I really don’t mind a bit.

Looking forward to seeing your new work!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

raptor|3D,

Nice to see your new work! I always enjoy seeing your particular style of drawing…there’s a nice sense of attention to line, and even if the form is a bit elongated on this figure, there’s a nice feeling of volume, and contrast between exterior line and interior shading.

By the way, did you and Slux ever get the chance to meet? Just curious, I remember at some point that was in the works.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Thanks! Although it could be better … I try to learn quicker sketching along with more detailed rendering.

Yes, I visited Slux one month ago and I have to tell you that he is quite a collector of various drawing and anatomy books. That reminded me I should extend my own library. Not only books but he has really nice setup for drawing and great works too (these looks much better in real than on the web ~ but I believe this is well-known thing for every scanned artwork).
This guy is really serious about drawing :). Inspiring setup there, almost like a studio.

#66

Hey, that’s really interesting! I wonder if Slux knows we’re chatting about him?

Yes, it seems you are both very serious about drawing, which is really great to see! Glad to see both of you posting on the boards.

With respect to faster sketching ~ though you are not a beginner, you may want to check out some of the Gesture Exercises in the Beginner’s Lounge:

Beginners’ Lounge

All of the Exercises (so far) are linked in the first post.

While he has a totally different style and approach than you do (he was trained as an animator, so is really good at capturing movement efficiently), I think you might quite like seeing a really fast approach to capturing the essence of a pose.

raptor|3D,

Beautiful drawing…really lovely to see. I also like how you’ve measured the amount of time spent in cd.

Definitely looking forward to seeing more of your drawings.

hi again… yup i’ve got ms. simblet’s anatomy for the artist, i’ll be posting some studies from it too. it’s a great book for reference but i think someone already mentioned that for instruction on things like gestures, constructing the figure in space and other stuff like that there are other better books. this one really focuses on the parts, how they move & what they do in the body. what other books are you working from? just curious.

btw, your pencil studies are nice. that skeleton study must have taken a lot of patience. hope to see more
