Anatomy Thread of Llynna

Lynna, it’s great to see the new pieces ~ I think you really show a confidence with traditional pencil that is really quite cool to see. I actually really liked the more unfinished version of this piece, it might be interesting for you to explore doing heavily detailed faces and leaving some of the rest of the drawing incomplete.

Artists like Degas frequently do this to great effect:

Heya Lynna,

Here are the paintovers you requested - I think if you didn’t want to go this far, you could just add more substance to the waist so that it evens out the size of the legs a bit.

#63

Hi…Llynna…

I REALLY like the design, color, and feel of your last piece…
I think that if you get rid of the viewers left side of her calif muscle, and show the knee from the side,…will solve the problem…easy fix.
Right now, it looks as though her leg is being seen from two perpectives or angles at once.
The calif area, from knee to ankle appears to be seen from the front…the thigh, and ankle, appear to be seen from the side…impossible to have it both ways…when the leg is viewed from the side,…you want a bent B…shape…I used to make this same error myself…that is why I noticed it right away…Get BURNE HOGARTHS…DYNAMIC ANATOMY book if you can…will really help you solve alot of problems that arise when a figure is CREATED, and not copied…
Looking forward to seeing a lot more of your work…

oh gosh blushes i lost the subsciption for my own thread, so thanks becca and spritdreamer for the replies and apologies for my late answer.

spiritdreamer: hey thx  the ankle has been bothering me a while :d now i see whats wrong with it :).

heh becca, thx for posting it here and doing the paintover, now i only need to finish eh? well… you know how that is with me and finishing.

anyway, i began a new pencil study today. it is weird, its screwed and dont ask me what it is about, it just crawled into my mind and wanted to be drawn. based on a graphite sketch i did a while ago (crappy one by the way ;)) and some stock photo i lost due to some hd crash …

#65

Heya Llynna,

This is a gorgeous drawing - it reminds me of the recent drawings of Icey, have you seen those? I think both of your drawings are really powerfully expressive - really nice to see.

#66

oh yea becca i just looked at iceys thread and decided to burn all my stuff haha  kidding, just need to train more and fraud my pass, since i look 18 maybe i should do it and pretend im still young ;P.

was all day at university and after that a 30th birthday so not so much drawing done today. but i did a rather quick study for a drawing i want to give my parents for christmas, selfportrait using a mirror. my flatmate thinks its crap and that ive done better stuff. what do you people think a no go for a present?

atm im having trouble updating the despair sketch from yesterday cause of my stupid scanner who decided to eat all the h pencil things sigh. gonna work on that and update again later

#67

Lynna,

I don’t think your parents would think any self portrait you did was ‘crap’. Keep working on this, I hope to see it finished.

#68

Your flatmate is wrong. That’s a great portrait. Great line weight too.

#69

thx becca and womball  i will refine it and do a proper drawing of it then and becca youre not realy right my mother is a bit hard about art haha

well, some last update on the pencil for tonight. i think i will leave most of it blank to ashieve a more graphic look.

#70

hey guys n gals, some update for tonight

ive got something going on with change and metamorphosis these days and limitations, dont know well… so i changed the whole concept of a digital piece i did some sketches for. it was dead boring before or rather something like well maybe nice to look at but was no good gesture wise. so i decided to cut out the most important part of the thing where the main “action” is going on.

well

here we go, my evenings work for today.

over the day i began my master copy of leighton but totally screwed it up. wanted to go for oils and made the underlaying sketch too weak and painted on the wrong site of the canvas… well stupidity cant be helped eh, so i have to start again from nothing heh.

Hi Llynna!.. awesome images… love the last-but-one figure…! looking forward to the portrait series…:bounce:

#72

Hi…Llynna…

Just stopping by to say…Glad to see you are back…
I like that self portrait, and your other new stuff as well…very much a part of YOU…which is always a great thing to see…in a person’s work …:bounce:
I read that you are in a metamorphosis state of mind…:scream:
Have you checked out Werner Hornung / anselm …
His porfolio is in cg talk …don’t know how to post links yet…MRS SPIRIT DREAMER takes care of that for me…:scream: but she is at work now…think you can just type his name in, and you will find him.
He is one of my favorite artist, and I think you might get some ideas and inspiration from his works…your work and his have a lot in common I think.
Would love to see that self portrait of yours, embelished upon, and put into a scape in a simaler way as he does with faces in some of his paintings…would look fantastic I think, and would also allow you to express your inner emotions further, while keeping your portrait as the center piece of the painting…Just a passing thought from me, as I am seeing your self portrait…and some of your other personal works…they put me in mind of Werner Hornung.
Like I said,…Great to see you are back, and am really looking forward to seeing more of your work…IT’S always a real pleasure to see your impressions and expressions of LIFE…

so, after laying down some days with the flu i finished the drawing this evening, somehow im a bit out of luck these last few month… hopefully i will be the luckiest girl in the world or so next year .D

im rather pleased with the outcome, the hands are a bit well broken^^, but im going back to my bridgeman to get that fixed.

on a side note atm im working on doing a .psd file of doctor bones figure drawing tutorial thread. trying to type out all his notes for better reading, that is realy helpful too, we will see the outcome of it

@glen: dont make me blush heh. its great that you like what im doing even when its a bit weird at times :D. i had a look at anselms stuff due to your post. realy surreal paintings he got there. i think i need some additional looks to get at least a tiny bit of all the things that are there to see.

hohoho, i hope you all had a great time over christmas and didnt fall for the family trouble trap ;).

i wanted to finish my puppeteer before christmas but i couldnt manage… so im just a few hours before finishing. here is some preview. you all could do me a favor and tell me how the image looks like on your screen because i have sencere doubts about mine. is the shirt more greyish or bluish? is the red rich and saturated? ark i hate it, i want this calibration spyder!

while i was at my parents i started a new project, due to the lack of a proper comp and a graphic tablet its traditional. first i did some thumbs and found a gorgeous ref over at devart from a model named faestock.

im now doing a full pencil underdrawing which is 70*35 cm. i dont realy know how to scan that in yet but hey one step after another eh?.

#75

Hey Britta…

take photos of your giant sheet of paper with the drawing wips!

I dont want to wait til you find a chance to steal enough money for a industrial-size scanner

#76

ok due to mus request i took a photo, its suboptimal but hey you can see at least a little bit of whats going on g.

#77

Lovely drawing, Llynna, you should definitely check out the work of Alphonse Mucha:

That kind of style seems like it would be really inspirational for you.

#78

heh becca,

in fact the drawing is kinda inspired by mucha. in my seminar about art around 1800 were speaking about mucha atm. also ive always been in love with art nouveau and also some newer art nouveau painters as yoshitaka amano.

#79

Hehe, well the influence definitely shows in a good way! I think you would really learn a lot from the great coloring of that age - such a beautiful style. On a related note, check out the Peacock Room by James McNeill Whistler. Simply gorgeous stuff!

#80

ohhh thanks becca  another great artist to add to my bookmarks

so many artists out there, a lifetime isnt just long enaugh to explore them al. what a shame.

while i was at my parents i visited a Franz Radziwill exhibition, he was a german magic realism painter which was quite fun to see, next week im off to the guggenheim exhibit in bonn where most of the guggenheims paintings are shown, am not to shure if i will like it but one never knows before one sees eh.
