Anatomy Thread of imageen

hi, I’d like to practice my anatomy and would like feedback on how I can improve my work, I don’t really have any formal training on the subject but I do recognize the names of most of the muscles, thanks for your time.

I cant really speak from a 3D perspective cuz I’ve only created 1 model ever and it was only a head. But just from my POV, I think the proportions are right and overall it looks human. However there are a slew of minor problems with the figure peppered all over the place.

To name a few heres what I noticed:

  • The pectorals push up too high causing this abnormal bulge to form below the clavical. This also causes too much of an indent between the pectorals and the deltoids.

  • The serratus magnus region seems kind of flat, it doesnt curve around the barrel of the ribcage and the latissimus dorsi seem to just protrude a little strangely out the sides of his back.

  • I find it kind of strange the two bottom abdominal sets are fused together like that.

  • The hands are very small. Or the wrist is too thick.

  • The two dents on the pectorals seems strange to me.

Anyways, those are my nitpicks of the upper body. I’d like to help you more, but I have not studied the anatomy of the lower body yet. Good luck with your sculpting!

Hey imageen. Yep, this is a good start, especially with no formal training.

I agree with all of redpandafire’s comments, esp. regarding the hands and wrists. My background is with 3D modeling & animation, so I understand how hard that part can be, especially when you add the challenges of the awkward t-pose & rigging…it can be kind of tricky. The ankles seem to have a similar problem: perhaps a bit thick and under-defined. With that said, it looks pretty good overall, and considering that you don’t have formal training, I’d say you’re doing fine and your next piece will be that much better  Just a couple of other notes…as you continue to practice, I’d recommend a) taking some time to do anatomy drawings and sketches too (even if you “don’t draw,” as so many modelers say :hmm: ) and b) making sure to practice anatomy studies with women, children, old people, skinny people, fat people, etc. Muscle dudes are a great way to learn anatomy, but adding some variety will teach you a lot about the human machine and how it works too

Nice work, keep it up!
