Greetings!! Really nice piece there! I noticed you are from Newport News, VA – me too originally!! I didn’t think that there were any jobs in the Hampton Roads area for digital artists… i’ve been stuck out here on the west coast for the employment opportunites but i’d really like to move back. Any hope for a techie refugee?

MICHELANGELO Buonarroti
Male Nude
1504-06
Black chalk with white highlights, 40,5 x 22,6 cm
Teylers Museum, Haarlem

New piece…new style.
FateBringer: hehehe…nuthin’ wrong with a few extra muscles fer some style points…like I said, Bisley does that excessively.
This last one you posted is superb! Way to grid it out…and I like that you left the grid in there. Another nice stylistic element.
piccolabella: Nice form! Kinda rough tho’…what medium is that? Conte maybe?
YMS: Gorgeous color.
michael-olszak: Great to have u join in! I think these are great starts…I like that I can see how you were laying in the angle lines for the diff. parts of the figure, i.e. the rib cage, shoulders, pelvis, hips, etc. That is a great approach! In the future perhaps spend just a little more time analzying proportions on the figures. Don’t feel rushed by trying to do all 50 if ya start a little late…I think I remember Rebbecak saying earlier that it would be better to do fewer studies that are very refined than many rushed ones. Try looking at the piece in the mirror right after you get the very intial rough ‘blocking’ sketch done and before you have ANY detail…so easy to see things get skewed in the mirror and also so easy to correct at the very begining stage as well. Keep em comin’!
razz: Nice hatching and way to capture the light and shadow.
MechaHateChimp:
I’ll be putting a video tutorial for the next study sometime today
Awesome! Look forward to it!
Huitzu: Really cool to see your pencil werk! Nice change of pace from painting, huh?
LaleLoh: Nice hatching as well. I especially like the angel one.
ytresu: Very cool to see you experiminting with diff. styles!
Dim: That’s awesome fer a coffee break.
Thomasphoenix: Thnx! I have admired your werk here from the begining.
Mal-1: That ‘Entombment’ piece is just gorgeous…great painterly skill.
Everyone else…great werk as well!
Hey there! Actually a lot of jobs, but everything connected to the military, mostly courseware development (e-learning). My company is moving slowly towards game development, but it’s going to be for the military as well. If you are interested, my company is hiring right now. Email me your resume at icarriger@unitech1.com, i will pass it to my director.
Sorry Rebecca!
Nothing to post. I played around with Chimps tutorial and miserably failed.
Chimp - I got all the way up to the fill, but the burn technique I could not grasp. First, I cannot find that in Painter 9. I tried air paint, glow fx, etc. My highlights and shadows looked more like markers. I gave up. There was no fading of the marks.
michael-olszak - Love the sketches. My favorite type of work. You have it figured out.
LaleLoh - You are welcome and another great one.
bam! heres one i made earlier!

Wow thanks for the comment and awesome tip Redsand1080, I’ll definitely do that when drawing later this evening. Indeed your right i’m a bit too rushed and thus pay less attention to the proportions and other details. I guess i want to see the finished resault ASAP! But then again, probably when i’ll take the time to actually study the proportions and draw calm, I’ll be much happier at the end right?
I’ll Try that next time i’ll be drawing. Just wanted to thank you for the cool comment. i appriciate it a lot man.
aidanwilson - Amazing drawing man. love the style.
A Small question: Has somebody already downloaded like all the models and posted them as a zip file or something? I don’t know if this was maybe asked already.
Not exactly where i wanted to go with this one, but it’s time to move on to another…

Thanks for all the kind words Redsand, Intervain and the rest of you folks…don’t think I’ll probably complete this challenge, but as always it’s fun to take part and see all the great work.
Ref Number 053:
Giglamesh, you always wow me with your technique. I really enjoy the texturing:applause:
AidonWilson, Really nice looseness to this one. Great work:thumbsup:
FateBringer, I love you minute compositional elements. Very tight feel.:applause:
My second(?!?!?!?) one. I suck.
Everyone’s work is so inspirational. You all can’t be real. Just bots who are VERY intellegent. This work isn’t human, haha. Let’s keep it up.

Havent had a chance to work on any studies or the video tutorial the last two days… got hit with a last second commission so I had to take a break. I had a chance to browse through some of the latest pieces though and wanted to share my thoughts for some of the ones that really stood out for me:
ICY: like the way you handle your curves, very nice. I like the fact that you added highlights on your last study… I think the effect would work even better on a darker toned paper. Nice job!
FateBringer: Nice pencil study!
Redsand1080: Great study, I like the way you handled the musculature on the back & mid torso. The legs and arms could have been handled a little better… nice job overall though!
aidanwilson: i like your study alot… great style too
JoshT: love the pencil work… keep’em coming theyre looking great
gilgamesh828: I gotta say I really like your last study. It has a great style… very nice
Roberto: looking good! I think the handled the overall figure nicely…
Mal-1: Lovin the style! Youre handling your studies great… nice proportion, and great balance overall
ha-dou-ken: WHATS UP ROCKER!!!
That last study is looking nice bro. Im liking that little bit of diffused lighting you have going… nice job!
Here is my hour’s worth of work from last night. I am using a combination of what I have learn from everyone on CGTalk. I love this digital painting. I haven’t touched my other traditional stuff since August. Check out my anatomy thread to see the WIP. (Link in signature line)

ha-dou-ken - Love it. Strong but with softness. That is where I need to get to with mine.
RobertoOrtiz - How do you get it looking so real? What brushes are you using?
JoshT - You have a great understanding of this thread. It is a torso study! Great work.
batte812 - Your drawing a coming along. You need to think about the 3D form when rendering. Start rendering lightly and build, build, build, until you get the shadows that form the shapes, muscles, bones, etc. Since you are working in graphite, do not be afraid to use your eraser. Your work has got great potential. This is just my perspective. It is just constructive critism. Everyone has there own style.
thanks Mecha! that means a lot coming from you. It’s really embarassing when people compliment me:D Aggie, thanks, torsos are sooo hard for me! I need to hang out here more.
I love everything here. It’s hard to choose a fav artist…so i won’t, it’s impossible! that’s like asking which eye do i want to get shot out…no it’s not.
