#441

oh Wow! So many sweet posts since the last time I checked!
Congratulations everyone ^^ When I get home ill make a major post commenting. For now, ill just post this, done at work. I kinda like this one ^^

Like Rebecca suggested, a bit more of contrast!

#442

that’s a really nice one SulaMoon:thumbsup:

SpiritDreamer: Very nice feel in these. I like the loose approach a lot. The whole figure complex of Aeneas, too – vey well put together.

RobertoOrtiz: how come I never see you participate at the DSG? Good work here, especially your latest Dürer (53)

JoshT: Nice, clean work with the forms.
crazy3dman: thanks. good pencilwork; are the highlights digital, by the way?

ohjay: very impressive interpretation of that first Dürer head. The wrinkes are intimidating!

demented: thank you – only it’s not really “man”! Good work, by the way, I like the flow of your lines in 55. The forms in the other could be a little starker, perhaps.

kaylon: I really like this. Minimal and expressive.

mazalo: Great work, as usually.

Intervain: it’s looking good! I’ve always been wondering how one can do a 3D render from just an enface photo/portrait, though. I thought one would need several views.

toonjte: don’t give up! You’re doing just fine, and the one thing that’s for certain is that if you keep up you’ll get better. That Richelieu head came along pretty well.

Oberon: Welcome! And a good start already.

SulaMoon: nice work, smooth and tidy.

Right, so here’s 5 more heads. I hope I’ll be catching up soon.

Tried a (as it turned out, small) variation in approach. Dante was done with a 0.25 pen and a calligraphy pen, on top of a faint pencil sketch.

thanks a ton eilidh

well if you get a 3/4 shot that’s the best you can get, then you just make a proxy - just a rough outline and then set the camera angle to match that of the picture you’ve got

if you have an enface image only then it takes a lot of guss work  and reference from other photos to aid you but it’s possible!:scream:

#445

eilidh and SulaMoon they are superb…

toontje: that is great…has a europian style about it…glad you picked up the pencil

My latest…a mess around with some subtle colour…my 6th, head 081 …

Keep going guys…all are looking fantastic!

Hi, posting in my first challenge. Be gentle.

I got into this because a friend suggested, and so people know I'm treating this like life drawing, a lot of my pictures are quick gestures or longer studies, the times are on each picture. I'm doing it this way because I'm unsure if I'd get them done any other way, and I want to be able to get a guesture or likeness down quickly, becaue I'm lazy :P. So, here are my first twelve.

Hi there SulaMoon, great lovely piece !
I love that style, good contrast too, I suffer a lil. with contrasts too  Anyway I think Rebecca is healing me… :scream: :bounce:

Tootje - yeah… ! great, you are more than welcome, glad you stay with us  I like your style too. Keep it up.

eilidh - nicety style ! Very good head, I´d ask if you could just make the scan a lil bigger, like putting them in 2 rows but larger images, your style in very good to look at, your Dante with 0.25 and cal. pen went out specially atractive.

Great works around, another day… going sleep now 00:41 here. Best wishes to everyone.

#453

Djampa & Kaylon: Thanks guys, that means a lot to me :). I wish I could do my best, but I don’t have time at home and the only time I have is sneaking around during backup sessions at the office. I’ll try to finish one sketch a day anyway.

I’m happy to see so much different styles converge here in this thread and that ROCKS :buttrock:

I don’t have a tablet, and I never knew you could simulate canvas painting with paint programs. Now I really want to try that out too. Can you use any program to produce oil paint quality pieces? I’m into open source… so I hope that the Gimp is able to achieve such quality.

#454

Ok two more…
HEAD 07
Pencil

HEAD 08
Pencil + Photoshop

And congrats to all Italians on the worlcup vitory today!

#455

Wow, seeing lots of great stuff.

toontje: Not all programs can give you that look. I haven’t tried GIMP but you’ve got to check out ArtRage when you get a tablet. That and Painter can give you more of that painterly look. Man, you’re doing a good job. Keep it up

kaylon: Nice way of bringing some color in. I should try that.

OpenCanvas - >1.5 hours (I didn’t keep track)
Ref#010

2HB Pencil - about 25 minutes
Ref #023

Ref #022

Ref #020

Ref #019 (OpenCanvas~1 hour)

(Timelapse Quicktime 7)

LOL, wish I was more consistent with my quality

#456

Hi everyone,

Some truly outstanding work here! :bounce:

Here’s mine for the night, from Ref 099:

Next one! Need to get a bit speedier (or spend more time doing them…)

This one took 45 minutes in Painter.

#458

Mazalo - awesome stuff. thats saved out on my comp for inspirign me when im feeling lazy or jaded! awesome

Kaylon - love your contemporary style. Looks great on these master copies.

Mal-1 nice!

Puppelli, great sense of depth in that one. love it.

And rebecca - loving the balpoints! gotta bust out a couple of those myself. Especially since ive been distracted by my girl. Only up to head number 4  Uh oh!

Tried to go Mullins style without actually bothering to look at his style before i started! Was fun to paint tho and realatively quick

#459

I’ve done them yesterday, my 7th and my 8th. I’ve used Artrage, it was a bit difficult because I’m not in the habit with this software, but it gives nice results.

Mal-1> nice work!
Puppeli > it lacks some contrast maybe, but nice work too.
All peeps, great works! I don’t have much time to comment all people - there’s too much talented people here!

#460

Another one… Not so happy with this one…

Nice pics Agou - have you tried working with a non-white background? I think 08 would have been helped a lot by a brown or cream ‘canvas’

Cavematty - really nice - I like your style and the depth of tone
