im gonna develop on of these characters to a more refined 2d concept then a 3D model.I think its gonna be the top right.

#44

Hello Deplete, this really liked me, amazing work here.

Andrew,

Great to see more of your work. I really like the way you are starting to construct figures such as this:

[left]Good luck with your demo reel! If your concept sketches are to be part of your portfolio, I would recommend painting out the background smudges and making everything as clean as possible. A lot of it is about presentation, and you don’t want to lose points for that.

Best of luck, let us know how things go.

Cheers,

DigiSol-Thanks man

Rebecca-Thanks again, Im trying to focus on drawing the volumes instead of the edges of the surfaces, I think its working out a bit better but we will see :). Good point on the presentation. I should always keep that in mind.

Well I spent a couple hours on this, Igot the refrence from a site zhu zhu recommeneded.

depleteD,

Coming along nicely! I think that the next step is just to start smoothing / blending / gradually introducing stronger darks and a few key highlights to set everything off.

Looking forward to your update!

Cheers,

HI…depleteD // Andrew

Nice progression…looks like all your hard work is paying off…your figures are really shapeing
up nicely…that last one has a really nice feel to it…maybe soften some of the edges a bit, will
add to the beauty…looking forward to seeing more of your works…

Rebecca-I’m not gonna continue that one, it was just a proportion practise. Thank you for your input though. It is always always appreciated. For my next piece I’m putting more time into it. So there will be much progress that I will take critique on.

Thanks Glen, I’m trying to practise as much as I can. Right now I’m in the pinch of trying to get a job and my 3d skills seem to be in more demand than my abilities to draw. Not thats a bad thing, it just divides my focus.

Well Here is my attempt at a celebrity. Anyguesses on who it is?? :). Shes my third favorite. Came in just behind of air and water, but beat food witch comes in at a distant fourth.

2 different sessions. Doing a deadlayer ontop of my sketch first.
Once I finish the deadlayer I’m gonna cheat and liquify.

Session 2

 Hi…depleteD // Andrew …I like that last one…pretty face…GREAT JOB on the smile…
There is no such thing as cheating…WHATEVER WORKS…and BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY…
NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION…GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR JOB.

Hi Andrew,

I think you start your pieces perhaps with too rough of a brush, I would recommend taming the brushstrokes a bit as they are looking rather disjointed / blocky ~ I think blending a bit more will definitely help your values to read.

Looking forward to an update!

Cheers,

#52

Well its tobad I cant update this regularly. Been so busy.

Hey Rebecca, Thanks, Yea I’m doing this deadlayer to practise the values more. Once I fishish this blending I’m going to adjust the contrast of my values see if I can get them as close to real as possible.

Hey Glen, Thanks. This is like my ultra liquify all day till its correct phase. I’m glad its not frowned on. Its like so much easier than repainting I find.

Still trying to get the likeness.

#53

And some more progress on the celebrity wip.
I hope to make it exactly like her. So everyone can recognize without hesitation.

#54

And some of my gestures.

#55

150 gestures this year so far.

and a wip from my character thumbnails.

#56

Well, I’m in the transitional period right now, moveing to a new place. Such a pain in the ass.
Still trying to find time to study the figure.

Andrew,

Good to see your new work ~ hey, that’s great that you’ve done so many Gestures this year! Do you feel that they have helped you a lot? I would certainly guess that they have.

I can’t remember if I’ve suggested it, but one book from which I think you might really benefit is Vilppu’s Drawing Manual. I think the main thing that will help is to break forms down into more basic forms ~ draw pages of boxes, cylinders, spheres, and then try to connect them into basic human shapes. The simpler, the better ~ it’s amazing what will ‘read’ as human form without even knowing the slightest bit about anatomy.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Cheers,

Hey rebecca, I think the gestures have helped, im gonna take a look back in a year at my first to see my first.

As for those vilppus, I have his dvds, i gotta redo them tho. They are so amazing. I am faltering from the way of breaking down the shapes.

Unfortunaltley im only gonna be able to do 1 hour a day now with working all day i think.

Heres some more

adding color to Ms. Alba.

Hi Andrew,

Good to see you back. When you are using Vilppu’s DVDs, do you work digitally or traditionally? I think you might really benefit from doing more traditional studies. I’d love to see more pencil work, that you then perhaps scanned and shaded.

Cheers,
