Am I missing "Freeze" as in 'LW subpatch freeze to polygon'?

I remember when I used Lw…long ago…when you wanted a poly export or poly copy of a sub-patch model you could freeze it and it would(with or without the extra polys of subpatching)retain the basic smooth output of subpatching.
Of course the model wouldnt be as smooth without LWs subpatching but it would add polys and if I remember right you could adjust the amount of smoothing and thus the model would retain the amount of general smoothing as the subpatch model.
Im basically asking if Modo can do this…freeze the subpatch version into polys for use in Maya.
I have been exporting ascii and the converting to sub-d then back to polys with excellent results but I was wondering if I could save some steps and export from Modo like this thru “freezeing”.
I was thinking I could up the poly count or something…

Thanks for any help.

I just want to point out one thing: when you freeze the subpatch in LW, it does retain the smoothing of the subpatch. First of all look in the general options for the setting that determines level of subpatch (higher number, more polys = smoother). When you freeze the subpatch you just need to be in “smooth shade” viewport setting to see it just as smooth as the subpatch.
