Hi. as I model and extrude the spline I am running in to a problem. As I select an edge and go to extrude it, the edges are going of in strange directions. This is a normal issue I am assuming? How can I align the normals on these edges so they all point in the same direction so I can extrude is not distorted?

You probably need to look into the Selection Tool > Modeling Axis tab in Attributes Manager and alter the Orientation to suit your needs.
There are other options in that tab like Point/Edge Axis as well if you can’t achieve exactly what you’re after with Orientation.
Make sure you have one of the Selection Modes active, then look in Attributes panel.
