Hello:-)

I was trying a concept on alien search. I am not sure whether i should call this as a concept or matte painting. Eventually I want this comp as a matte painting with the help of your suggestions.

Hio Girish,

Depends if you want this to support a bigger story, animate it, having some live action in it and compositing, being photo real or do you want this to just show a looser idea. I can see the noise and atmosphere slowly moving around and the guy in the middle be possibly live action or animated with the flash light light source moving about, which would illuminate the atmosphere and have bounce light all over the environment in a 3D way.

Thanks for the reply. If I want this comp to be just a 2d matte painting what would be your advice?

Ahh 2D with no move at all or a 2D shot with moving elements? If just 2D with no movement (still image) I’d keep the central focus on the guy in the back, so darken the edges, by removing the top bright smoke area, and keep the curved surfaces near us more silhouetted, and less light wrapped painted around it. Stonger edge lighting, and more wet, rusty feeling if that’s the case (but up to you on how weathered it should look inside depending on age/environment).
