Hey guys, been a while since I’ve posted here. I’ve been trying to brush up on some design skills. Worked on this one this morning, my plan is to keep refining it based on your critiques.
Thanks!

The eyes are really far apart, but this might be the anatomy of the alien.
It looks like it is wearing a full face mask. I’d make it alien with texture, something we aren’t used to seeing. I like neon and smoke and shit, so I’d add that, but that is my personal preference.
Thanks for the reply Architectus! After I posted this I spent a little time browsing around and realized I made a common beginners mistake which was focusing too much on good rendering and not enough on design/the concept. It is supposed to be mask but I can see why it’d be hard to tell what’s going on there. I’ll work on it some more tomorrow morning and post an update.
Meh. In the end I decided that as a design it’s just not working. I was fooling around with it for a few hours and I couldn’t make it work without pretty much completely re-drawing it. Definite lack of sketching/thumbnailing. Another thing that was bothering me was the way the muzzle leaves a gap between the keystone/bridge of the nose and the mask itself. Oh well, now I know the importance of thumbnailing! I added a little bit of coloring anyway. I’ll do a fresh start tomorrow.
When you post a concept design for opinions, it would help if you tell us what the design is supposed to be in the context of the narrative, the purpose it serves, and other things we need to know in order to assess whether the design conveys your intention effectively.
