Airplane inferno

#1

Hey CGS´s.

I´ll start here by showing you my current project, it´s (just) an exploding Airship.

Airship preview

ATM there is no much of the inferno you may expected, its en early shot. I´ve started just 2 Days ago, so everything is still experimental.

I currently try to find a smart solution to create the breakable cage and bind the cloth on it.

I make use of Cinema4D R11.5 and AfterEffectsCS5.

Would like to get some critiques and tipps, but most of all some motivation

I use Maya, so i can’t really help as much with the technical side (don’t know c4d tools), but i’d say make it less explosive, and more intense burn. Blimps/dirigibles/zeppelins don’t generally explode like that, the hydrogen inside burns rapidly and eats away at the Lining, causing the ship to lose altitude and crash.

Maybe make use of an animated texture for fire emission? And possibly use a softbody object for the cage, with a vertex at each cross-joint, so it can crumple when it collides with the ground.

Thx for the tipps.

You are right with the explosion thing, i want to burn it up like this and let it falling to the ground:

For the fire I want to try a mix of 3D particles and post work, maybe some real-footage too, I will see.

The cage is an invisible softbody, but i generate cubes on its edges. The problem is that the cloth algorithm creates triangles at the broken ends and lets some edges disappear. Ok, if its burning like that above its not visible, but I wouldn´t be happy

But i guess fakeing and blending is everyday life?

Looks good. I like the way the camera moves. That sort of, handheld look. Maybe do a bit more of that but, from the ground and add some focus-in focus-out motion. Just a thought, looks good either way.

After watching all those COD montages I completely forgot that Cinema4D can be used for anything other than that.

GJ!
